They are, I bought one from Andy a while ago after I'd spent seventeen years backing into various power poles, stumps, etc. Point in fact: a new bumper comes with no holes drilled for mounting or holes for the guards. It has to be done with a felt pen to mark the new holes underneath and the old bumper to make the measurements for the guards. It's not for the faint-of-heart; I had my Delta stationary drill press and a jig for the bumper to lay on for alignment. All clamped down, with a fresh drill bit, double-check everything (you've only got one shot at it) and proceed. I would not even try it without the above tools. One of the holes was a little off, but with the drill press, I was able to enlarge it a tad. I'm a lot more carefull backing up, now.

Streamquest- you have what would have been my dream moho. If I could have kept my 280 and upgraded to a cummins, I'd still be rolling in it. But it did not go that way for us. Still like the trailers, but the Classic Motorhome is in a class of it's own.

Polishing, anyone???

I know that this thread has died out lately, but there was some interest expressed by some a while back in polishing their mohos.

I came across this item for sale on ebay that might be of interest to someone in the group. This is almost the same unit that I purchased for about $3k.

I will say it again..... This thing kicks butt!!.... It is a serious industrial tool that you will probably never be able to wear out, and it will still be worth good money when you're done with it.

I just started with the jestco products and found my new way to polish. Omg! Love it. So much better. Easier and much deeper shine. Wow!

Hey Myrtle lynn,

I thought of you when I posted the ebay listing for the Spec drum polisher.

What is it about the Jestco system that has you so excited? You've obviously got plenty of experience as a basis for comparison. Please share.

I must say I find this polishing lark a bit scary ..once you start theres just no going back..I know I would make a right hash of it..I haven't the patience..id start at one end..get bored and move to the other..it'd end up like camo..
Hans Jnr seems to want to subject himself to the torture come spring..we'll have to 'brush up" on our homework re the nack of it all..i didn't realise the polishing equipment was so expensive..well have to take the cheaper route methinks..thats a job for the boys..i'll point out the missed bits..I can do that..

I have tried3 different ways of polishing. The jestco has been the best so far. It is easier in the way it comes with the bar of compound verses the paste you dip your finger in. The grinder is the power tool you need for jestco and seems already more durable than any orbital so far. I have a cyclo but only lasted about one AS now sits on my self non working. With the jestco you apply it with the side grinder and doesn't seem to leave any swirl marks. The polish product that comes with the set is amazing! The jestco gives a much deeper shine, almost seems to get into the aluminum much deeper. Over all quicker, easier and better results.

Hi Myrtle lynn,

I know what you're saying about the "edge" buffing wheel on the grinder. It provides a lot of concentrated polishing power at a high rpm. I use it for the tight spots and edge work, and to work out scratches. The drum polisher works on the same principle but over a much greater area.

The great thing either way is the absence of swirl marks. My heart goes out to anyone working with a circular, or even an orbital buffer.

In any case, you have to love getting dirty!!!

You've got the first part right; once you start, there is no stopping. Polishing definitely calls for commitment.

In my opinion, the results are worth the investment of time, and it sounds like your son might be up for the challenge. I may sound old fashioned, but this sort of undertaking is a true character, and confidence building experience, especially for someone young.

Ahhh, the Zen of polishing.

You will be proud as hell of him when you stand side by side, looking at one another's reflections in your mirror polished Airstream!!!

Hi Charly ..It certainly would be character and confidence building..I totally agree..thats why I couldn't possibly contemplate doing the job myself ..The only other person I know, with less patience than yours truly..is Vinnie..Having said that..he would knuckle down and do a proper job on a vehicle..whereas I would not.. Hansx1 wouldn't let me loose on it anyway..I remember him chasing me away from our military vehicle when I was armed with a can.. spraying all insundry.. he was absolutely furious.. I was at the back..he at the front..you could just hear the wizz of the paint coming out..
"have you got a spray can back there !!"
" who me ?" He was round the back like a dog on heat !!
I just cant be bothered with that preparation lark..
Hx2 really does want to do it come spring..RobinPilot has quite rightly been egging him on ..
So there will be many questions soon..

Haha. Well I don't due much buffing anymore. I have a full-time guy that only works on my airstreams now. Don't get me wrong I still get dirty working on them, but he is my exterior buffing guy. If I had more time I would.

Our "new" (to us) 345

I finally got over to the people we're buying our 345 from, and got some pictures. I am sorry about the poor quality of the pics - I only have a crappy phone to use - but that'll change soon! I have to be able to properly document my conversion of the AS TT I'll eventually buy and convert to hauling the Jeep, right?

Anyway - here's our new Baby - My wife hasn't named her yet.

A couple of years ago, we had a pair of VW busses we were going to combine into one. They sat in our front yard for a long time, and then we suddenly had to move out of state for my work, and we ended up selling one, and just abandoning the other. They were Astrid and Talulahbelle. The first pic is in honor of our previous resto project, the rest are of our "new" (to us) 345.

There are a couple of close-ups of "trouble spots" that I would like some input on how to repair / deal with - as well as a couple of the doors (I think both are for furnaces) that are white instead of Aluminum - is that how they are supposed to be, or have they been replaced / painted? And if so - how do I get new ones?

There's also a pic of the ugly rear-end missing the nice spare-tire cover, but Andy (from Inland) has already called me and provided pricing for a replacement door, so that won't remain that way for long.

As you might be able to see, she's got moss and algae growing on her now - one of the curses of parking a vehicle for ANY length of time in the State of Washington - but a good power-wash will take care of that right quick - then I need to talk to - is it Myrtle Lynn in Athens that has been developing and refining her polishing techniques? It's quite dull, and after seeing the pics on KeyAir's "classic pics" thread, I want to polish her up nice - and my wife HATES the brown stripe in the middle, so we'll have to do something about that. SHE is the boss when it comes to decorating - and I'm the boss when it comes to renovating or strengthening the frame of the TT to accommodate the Jeep.

The Dodge Executive is still sitting in Willemina, OR, so I haven't had a chance to get that cleaned up and sold, and we've been buried in snow (highly unusual for Western WA), so the old Dodge Class-C and the 5th wheel have also not progressed far (sulk!), so we're not alot closer to paying off the 345 than we were a month ago...

But I'm hopeful! We've got to move the 26' Dodge "the Executive" Class-A, the MT (Dodge Sportsman Class-C, currently completely gutted), the 5th Wheel (needs new, un-cat-damaged carpet, a new full mattress, and new cushions and curtains), the Dodge Caravan, and the Chevy Celebrity - and THEN we can pay off the 345.

Well, so much for my ramblings. If anyone is still reading, here are the pics.

Oh my.... Would love to, but they still have it. All done except for the hydra- boost. They are on # 4 this one from napa. I hope to have back tomorrow. Gosh I hope. I miss her so much. Looks great! First off before washing get remove all from VTS and strip the clear. It will remove all the mold and such. It will look great just stripping. Good luck pm me with any questions.

Sorry vintage trailer supply. It will remove the clear coat and that will remove the mold. I mean you can just pressure wash for now and it will be clean. That's a start.
