Classic Motor home get together

Team,

I would like to propose a classic motor home get together in Colorado this spring. Looking for ideas for a more specific location. Who would be interested?

I think I/we could pull it off. Sounds like fun. My kids live in Loveland and Ft Collins. THEY would sure love it.

Lots of options out here. Depends on if people want to stay along the front range or are willing to venture up into the mountains. I really want to go back to Steamboat lake.

It would be our longest venture for sure. Need to check the wife's work schedule. But, our plan was to make Fort Collins area our first long trip anyway. Sure would be cool to meet up with some fellow CLASSIC MOHO owners. I havent seen any from around these parts. Ill run it past the DW and see what she thinks.

Super busy with work, but will look into some options for the stay in detail over thanks giving, and put together some proposed timelines.

How many days would you want to do? I am thinking two overnights.

Going to do a compression check on Sunday, if the numbers are good the engine stays, but the timing chain will be changed anyway while I have the nose off to do the water pump. If the numbers are bit good then out with the engine and in with a fresh 502. Interior coming out well, all new pex plumbing in new water pump 5.2 gallons per min. 2 new LED TV's, new factory speedometer, PO put in an aftermarket auto meter-looks like crap ! New larger medicine cabinet, new rear furnace, new hot water heater, almost every single item needs to be repaired or replaced.

So... thanksgiving was too busy. I will try over the Christmas break to get something sorted. My timeline is super close so I am thinking the weekend of 6-9 March 2015 or 24-27 April 2015. Because colorado is the destination. I think it would be better to have it in April. I am looking at the the Garden of the Gods Camp ground: RV Sites - Garden of the Gods RV Resort I think for our get-together though Steamboat lake would be best. I welcome feedback.

If anyone has a better suggestion because they live in Colorado, *cough* Kota *cough*, please share.

Kota mentioned Steamboat lake: which looks amazing, and is the cheapest by 50% to the next closest, and is far enough off the beaten path to be ridiculously fun for the eclectic and eccentric group that are airstreamers to have a bit of fun.

Lake Granby looks similar to steamboat lake

The April dates would work better for me, and probably better weather wise too.
I'm not familure with the sites mentioned so will leave that to those who do know the area.
Sounds fun! Hope we can pull it together.

Cheers Richard

April is also better for me, the nose of the 325 is coming off next weekend, all plumbing is done, new rear furnace installed, new glass shower door going in this weekend, rear LED TV installed, Atwood made my new hot water heater incorrectly so I have to wait for another one...hopefully a few more weeks...the list goes on and on....

April is a bit early to camp up in the mountains due to snow. We are usually still skiing in April. We've never camped along the front range so I couldn't recommend any flatlander camping. Venturing over the mountain passes can be a bit challenging. Consideration should be given to the mechanical condition of any vehicle attempting these long climbs and descents.

Do you have a recommended location for an April meetup?

Really don't. I'm sure there are but we always head up to the hills. Estes park might be an option in April. Colorado Springs probably has some amenities that would make the trek to Colorado worth while.

Or for something completely different: http://www.co.weld.co.us/Departments...eSitePark.html

Kota,

That is an awesome idea! I know I would enjoy that. However would need to see if they would do an exception to policy and open 5 weeks early. Definitely on Colorado destination spots now though. This and steamboat lake.

I'm wondering if we are going to be pushing the season a bit and getting into that part of the country a little early in the year? Once there I'm hoping to do some cruising around the area and check out some of the other areas of Colorado. And don't have a snow shovel.

Perhaps I should share a little personal context. I have lived in Hawaii most of my life ( wonderful tropical climate, but does make for becoming quite the weather whimp ). So last winter and again this winter I've been living in central Az. Trying to get toughened up a bit. But still recognize my limits. It's been into the twenties at night this week. BURRR!

Don't get me wrong, I'm into doing this get together for sure. Just want it to be fun, not a survival exercise :-)

These are three season Mohos after all.

Come on folks reassure me we woun't be building igloos to hang out in for our evening beverages.

Cheers Richard

April is a bit early for camping in the mountains. Anything above 10,000 feet will probably be still be snowed in. We are lucky that we can look at the weather and decide where to go the next day. The front range can be socked in with upslope on days it's beautiful in the mountains.

This was boulder in early Setp.

This was 30 miles and 6000 feet later.

Or it can be the other way around. April it early. May would be that golden window of nice weather before mom and dad take the kids to Wally World. Our best trips have been in April-May and sept-Oct.
