I’m a trailer guy so maybe I shouldn’t chime in....

But, if your wife is skeptical I would suggest renting for a weekend to get a sense of where she stands. In my experience a travel trailer is perfect for taking vacations with kids, you can bring their friends along at almost no extra cost and meals and sleeping arrangements are much easier than motels and restaurants.

As for a project, you may want to reconsider motor homes and look at trailers again. There are far fewer systems to deal with and your tow rig can double as a daily driver. There are decent projects for less than 5k and if you do your own work you can have something really nice for 10 to 15.

Take a good hard look at what you want and what will work for your family. It might be that a newer rig that doesn’t need work is better suited to your situation although you sound like someone who wants a project. As others have said a lot depends on your situation. If you live somewhere you have room to spread out then you might end up with something to use now and something to work on for later. 70k is a lot of money to put into anything that isn’t real property so starting off with something you know you can finish for 10 grand might be a better plan. You will have just as much fun working on it with your daughter and a better chance of finishing. Look around at all the unfinished projects there are for sale. Every one of them somebody had good intentions and wonderful dreams.

This vehicle is a Airsteam Mobile Command Vehicle formerly used by the Chicago Police Department for managing the police at Chicago Bears football games. It was the ultimate football tailgator. It is almost completely stripped naked inside except the bathroom and master bedroom walls. It has new tires on the front. It only has 16,000 miles on it. It has a very large propane tank, two large generators, and two propane heaters. It has a small sink and a refrigerator (not sure if it works). This vehicle is basically in excellent condition but it will need to be built out inside to your specifications. It has doors on the left side front and back. It would make an excellent demonstration vehicle or food truck. It has a 454 v-8 which runs great.

Sorry, didn't mean to tick you off. I was just being my usual bluntness. These coaches are not what we call, millenial friendly.

No where in your original post did you explain who you were or life experiences; all I read, was that you had a young child with a wife who was unsure of camping, and you were looking at a Classic motorhome.

I'm friends with everyone that understands that these coaches are a work in progress and require the owners to get their hands dirty a lot.

The 300le is really the best of the classic RV’s in my opinion, no tag axle, walk around queen bed, great layout, TBFI, and a 4l80e if you are lucky. I sold mine for $40k, and I still miss it!

Doesn't have a turbo diesel.

no electronics in my turbo 475 and I have two couches in the back that double as a king size bed, not a measley queen.

They are nice though; surprised Peter hasn't jumped on it.

I like the original striping and a lower price. I am sure the current owner has even more than the asking price "invested", but if I don't get that love at first sight, I move on quickly. You know what I am saying, Tony, its like the saying: "I went to bed with a lot of beautiful women and woke up with a lot of ugly ones " haha..

Yeah, I am wondering about it being easy to drive and work on, and floating down the road. A buyer does need to beware and be ready to cut through the stuff. Anyhow, it's still up on San Francisco Craigslist with the seller's phone number, (408) 623-6834.
