That may have held true a year or too ago but it seems Classic moho prices are on the rise, especially the 24' Argosy- 31'310 Airstreams. This of course excludes the 94-95 diesels as they have always held their value but the 24'- 31' seem desirable and are increasing in jumps and spurts.

Is it moho worth 79K, no, not on your life, but the owner may see north of 25K before all said and done, as we have seen nice shiny, unrestored inside 24 -26' Argosy's go for 20+.

Cheers
Tony

1979 28ft diesel airstream excella motorhome

Did Airstream offer a turbo charged version of the Isuzu 6bd1a in '79. I thought that I had read somewhere that when Airstream first offered the diesel option on the Classics that it was sans turbo. Cant remember what year they added the after market BAE turbo. In the add it states that it is a Turbo Diesel, I would make absolutely sure of this if interested in this rig.

Not according to Fred's engine matrix, which is the best reference I know of,

Here s an old thread that talks about the early naturally aspirated Isuzu 6bd1 in the Excellas. Maybe Airstream offered it only for a year or two. Sounds like it was a real dog without the turbo installed.

There is one post in that thread that talks about a '79 chassis sold as a '81 Airstream maybe the same applies to this listing?

Its good to hear that, as the prices languished for a number of years since I sold mine in 2005. Back then they were on a slide down, with economic problems and all.

It has been for sale on Ebay, Craigslist etc for at least 6 months - when listed with a price it has been $25K. Certainly appears to be a 'no reserve' auction this time so maybe someone will get a bargain?

Dear gdm1967,

From a fellow Airstreamer to another.

Be careful of bidders with little or no feedback, as they tend to be scammers wanting to win the bidding, send you a cashiers chque for more money than the amount bid, hoping they can scam you to send them the remainder, in the quise of the shipping company. Or it could be another scam.

Contact the bidder and try to establish their credentials for being able to pay. Try to get a phone number to contact them. Wait until the next day and phone them concerning the ebay listing they have bid on. If they are unsure of the listing you are talking about, then they are scammers for sure.

They will try and even bid up the bidding to an astronomical amout, to play on a persons greed, hoping to make the deal happen no matter what red flags are flying. Be careful.

Here's hoping it is a legitimate buyer, but the first indicators are not good as how many people on their very first Ebay transaction are going to drop $15,000+ dollars?

Cheers
Tony

Tony, I appreciate your concern and advice to the seller, but since he posted the unit for sale in many craigslist citys listings with a link to the ebay auction, i would not be surprised that someone would establish an account at ebay to bid on the MH.
However, you are so right with being extra cautious in this cyberworld full of people trying to pull a scam.

Thankfully eBay has buyer protection! Use PayPal for a deposit, and pay the balance in person when you pick it up after inspection...hard to go wrong.

@SebasSF. I'm glad your deal went well and hope your coach will give many memories to its new caretakers.

However nobody finds it a little suspicious that bidders on both 310's only have a bid history of (1). These guys will bid on anything and everything.

When it comes to peoples desperately wanting a deal to go through no matter what, anything can and will happen; even to people who think they have all the bases covered and they're protected.

What these scammers want is your Paypal account password; so they send you an invoice or authentic looking Paypal page with a login link; you clink on the link and sign in as you would to Paypal. The scammer now has you account number and info along with your password. Your accounts and credit cards attached to the accounts are cleaned out very shortly after.

The bidder or buyer never will, or had any intention to come and get the item.

The rule of thumb still applies....If it sounds or looks to good to be true; it is.

Cheers
Tony

Tony,
Good info on the scam. I get scam solicitations every day, and wonder how long it will be until they are good enough and I am addled enough to fall for one.

On the 310, I sent the seller a message asking whether it has been painted or is bare aluminum. It has been painted. If it was stripped and halfway polished, it would have been sold long ago.
