Hey Geocamper
I'm not aware of any MH built with a tag axle that can be lifted. That said, I'm sure someone will find one to point out how wrong I am but in normal circumstances, the MH built on the P30 chassis or a typical Ford chassis need the axle down to safely and adequately carry the weight of the coach. In on highway heavy/medium trucks you can find some that are set up to lift for different reasons, not so much in a MH.
Hope that answers your question.

I attended a Prevost Owners show down in Tampa a couple of years ago and distinctly recall a conversation in which I was told that the tag axle on those coaches could/must be lifted to negotiate a sharp turn, and that a rather annoying alarm would be sounded while the axle was in that lifted mode.

What you were told, is 100 percent in error for all Airstream tag axles.
Once they are installed, that's it, they cannot move except within about 3 1/2 inches, which is how they were designed.
But to mechanically withdraw them from the road, NEVER.

Tag axle equipped Airstream motor homes, have a number of "not cheap" things to take care of.
The subject has come up recently about the tag axles.
Airstream used tag axles that are torsion axles, just like they have used on the trailers for over 50 years.
For the benefit of people looking for those motor homes that are equipped with tag axles, keep in mind that torsion axles last about 25 years, or less if not used frequently. It's very difficult to check those tag axles, since an air bag will make one think that the rubber rods are OK, when in fact, they are not OK.
The only fix, is replacement.
The tag axles in the recent few years were no longer available. However, that has been corrected so that they once again, are available.

That 24' has been on Craigslist for quite some time now (it gets re-listed); it was the one I mentioned in this thread ( http://www.airforums.com/forums/f310...ed-125271.html).
As an aside the rear-bed example I also mentioned in that thread finally sold on eBay for just over $7K, so $4.5K seems a reasonable starting place for a negotiation.

In this case I think the MH being re-listed is simply a reflection of the MH market, they don't sell easily.
I only mention that it has been for sale for a while, so that any potential buyer is aware and can negotiate appropriately......it is definitely a buyers market.

Very much true. You can see a lot of unmaintained crap before you come across a gem....even if that gem is hidden under a lot of crap like my coach was.
The big thing is people these days want new, and in most cases don't possess the skills or desire to work on our rigs. You have to be a "special" person to want to buy one......all that and in my case a complete newbie that didn't have time to research what I was buying, (I saw the ad and purchased that weekend). I was originally looking for a GWV Traverse (Westphalia look a like on an Econoline).
I haven't regretted what I bought.
Cheers

And money is cheap and easy these days.
Amazing how deep people are willing to bury themselves in debt if someone is willing to lend to them.
I've always considered myself a "special" person!
I think I've always appreciated the things I've bought and had to invest sweat and labor in more than those that go out borrow to buy new toys. They seem to get bored with them and regret being stuck with payments.

Just to throw another view point in the mix; people have 'toys' for different reasons.
As a personal example I have two (same model) Triumph motorbikes - why two? Well; one is 'pretty', custom paint, chrome, and I am always 'tinkering' - it takes 4 hours to clean each time I use it; one is 'dirty', I don't even think twice about riding it anywhere, any time. One I own to work on, one I own to ride. At 10 years old the pretty one has 4K miles on it, the dirty one has 58K
Another example is our Argosy; I am very handy (refurbished trailers in the past), we know exactly want we want, but our hobby is going to be using it, hopefully for the next 10 plus years. So I have invested my own efforts into earning the money to pay someone to build what we want, rather than and investing 500-700 hours of my own time to do the work. I feel equally invested, just I invested time into doing something I am good at, to earn the money to pay someone else to do what they are good at.
Unlike my motorbike, I don't have time to have one to work on, whilst having one to use....... but at least I recognize that. I could have got one to use whilst I worked on it, but as I say our hobby is going to be to use it, and every hour I work on it is an hour less I can use it, and I recognize that as well.

Hi Martin,
I just noticed your address; and all this time I've been thinking that I was the only crazy on the South Shore. My Airstream/toy circus is located in Marshfield. We should get together sometime, and perhaps you can help me figure out why I have all this crazy stuff. PM me for phone or location if you're interested.

Sure, $10,000 US, please send cash and I'll let my shipping company know where to ship the coach. You have 30 days to inspect and return if you don't like it and I'll even throw in some pine air fresheners.......lots of them.
Cheers
Tony
