Peter..mien groute fruend..you appear to have mistakenly typed a "2" instead of a "3" in your very generous "out of reach" offer. Engine and transmission are now out and the 454 is becoming a 468 so eventhe "3" may be insufficient!

Chris....understand the boring out .30 over (which will have its own set of hazards), but why not go 502?

Cheers

Tony..if you mean replacing with a crate 502...way more expensive compared to the rebuild ($3500 compared to around $6000 for a 502 crate). If you are referring to boring-out the 454 to 502, this can be done but thought to cause heat issues wheres as staying at around 468 will be more than enough but...I'm open to any other comments.
Best Wishes
Chris

I would think mid 20s or higher. One thing is almost certain however, if it gets rained on I bet it's going to leak like a sieve!

Wow! Prices are going up.

24' rear bath????? Definitely not an Argosy as the end caps are aluminum.

It was the size and layout that formed the basis for the original NASA Astrovans.....

Martin:

So the layout in that coach would be minimal? no bathroom or bedroom per say? Maybe the 3 way fridge is a very small under counter unit?

Maybe that's why no interior pics, although the ad states interior is polished aluminum.

Cheers
Tony

I believe the 24ft 79-82 Excella would have had very similar layout to the 24ft 78 Argosy (at least my old donor 28ft 78 was identical inside to the 28ft 79-82 Excella), so the layout would be a variation on the picture below.

What is strange is the location of the door and the lack of passenger side windows. The NASA vans, Excella's on Fred's site and the 24ft Argosy manual shows it further back.

For the NASA use the interior was gutted, and replaced with benches and a barrier wall/door from the cockpit

I know the Nasa vans had fixed side windows, roughly the size of our sliders, but this coach has what looks to be flip up trailer windows?

You're right about the door placement, very odd, and yet intriguing at the same time.

Cambridge is only an hour away from me, I wonder if they'd let me come down and take some better pictures?

Cheers
Tony

Here's a 1975 26' Argosy Motorhome just recently listed on ebay.

I question the 13 mpg claim but overall it looks pretty decent.

Airforums member Jeff York (jeffyork40) is not that active here, but is active on the Argosy Owners FB page and has just posted he is selling his fully restored/repainted 1977 28ft Argosy.

No price mentioned but I am sure he will let you know if you PM him.

Very, very, very sweet looking coach indeed!

I wonder if I could get a magnetic decal sticker of a Canadian flag to go over the US flag.......no wait, it wouldn't stick to aluminum; sorry that's a deal breaker. Can't pretend to be something I'm not.

Maybe I should paint a pictorial of a Whitehouse in flames and red coats with fixed bayonets.........maybe not.

Cheers to all my American friends....surprisingly I do have a couple.
Tony

PS The more I see beautifully painted Argosy's, the more I want to paint my Airstream.......is that bad???

No, that's not bad....though I'd never do it because of the cost and fear of regret, I have had day dreams of color schemes for my 310. I'm with you though Tony, the more I see the freshly painted Argosies the more I like em. Especially the 20 footers. Too small for Lynn n I but for pure "cool" factor I love them.
