Bob, I'm sure it is the Land Yacht. That would be ridiculous for a Classic. I was thinking same as a few mentioned that it would be good for the drivetrain and other parts.

On a different note, I saw a 345 for only $10,000 in San Diego on Craigslist. By the time I got home to post it on the forum, it was gone! Did anybody here pick it up? Seemed to last only a day or so.

It was just that Kota was thinking that the windshields might be the same, if I understood him, but it looks as if the Classic has tapered-shape glass, and the LY is slab sided all the way. I owned a gas version. Fine vehicles they are too.

I was just curious if AS might have used some common parts on the 94-95 pushers. Looks like they are considerably different.

The 94 land yacht had a 190 hp Cummins and a at 542 Allison trans. The Classic has a 230 hp cummins and 3060 trans...both on Spartan Chassis.

I would disagree. Their interior appointments are pretty much identical, and they are way above the competition of that time in just giving a very pleasant impression when you go into one. The same oak cabinetry and some improvements in fittings.... drawer slides are distinctly better! The amount of storage is astounding too.

As for the gas ones, the TBI combined with the 4L80E transmission that was put in them from 1994 on is a great setup. I was always amazed at the economy from mine, and the easy driving: when I first had it I would find myself breezing down the highway at over 80mph because it was so unhurried mechanically. It had the power to pass any obstruction on the road..... of course that was a good way to use more gas too! I would get 9 to 10 mpg (US) consistently, driving 5 over.

Airstream was forced to move to the fiberglass construction because the aluminum bodies were so expensive to build that their market was drying up. If owners have taken care of their roof seals, there is not a thing wrong with the Land Yachts.

I admire the guys ambition, I don't particularly care for the execution of the idea, nor would I ever attempt it. Way too much time and materials in it to pass it on to someone as a project, imho

He may have gone overboard with that fin, but that is what our Classics would/should look like if not for budget constraints and our insistence on packing as much payload as possible onto a given chassis platform.

First you sacrifice the aerodynamics of the tail, then you flatten out the sides to gain more volume, add a flat top, and….. Voila …. you have a box!

Oh Lord, give me the strength to not do something crazy.

The old Flxible towing the "box" is the perfect example of "then and now".

And if you like fins, how about this one for sale on Tin Can Tourists….

wow. That Buck Rodgers rig cracks me up, and since we are at our own ends of the inter web I'll go ahead and LOL!
Reminds me of a time long ago a high school classmate made an experimental tunnel fin for his surfboard. I guess I was one of too many that just laughed at seeing it. He dropped me right there on the beach with one pent up punch.

I learned to measure my response in such cases of personal expression . :-)

Congrats SebasSF on finding a good new home for your 350le.
Isn't halloween a fun holiday ?

I was beginning to think something must be wrong with me, owning only one airstream.
