Help Looking @ 1984 27 foot
Help Looking @ 1984 27 foot. It needs work on the rear airbags. The bags need replaced the pump is newer. (1)How hard is it to replace them. (2)If I'm to do the work what am I looking at in parts $ ? (3) Can I drive it 200 miles with dead bags?

I don't think you want to drive it with deflated airbags.
There are a few threads on this forum about replacing the airbags. I have read a few since I need to replace the leaky bags on my '88 345. It sounds like to the bolts at the top of the airbag are the most challenging part of the replacement process. I think I recall reading that someone cut holes in the floor above them to gain easier access.
Good luck.

Agreed, I've driven a 310 that had deflated air bags (not by choice!) and the ride was horrible and I'm fairly certain not good on the chassis.

Your 27' should be a single axle set up with helper air bags. If it has conventional leaf springs and helper air bags you can drive it like that. I drove my 24' with no air in any of the bags front or rear for 200 miles to get it home. It was a little unnerving, it wandered a bit but overall not bad. Just keep it under 60mph.

Can you drive it 200 miles with no rear air suspension....Yes, take it slow and watch for rail tracks and large bumps. I drove my 310 for the first 400 miles as I had to go Ohio to pick up tires and didn't know about the seized compressor yet. It is a whole lot better ride with the airbags up though. Heck of a learning curve.
Are you sure the bags are the problem as they are pretty tough. It could be a bad levelling valve or an air leak. Check everything out first before replacing bags.
Cheers
Tony

If I recall correctly, the rear leaf springs on our 310 are cut off and only attached to the frame at one end. The cut ends are held up by the air bags. So, if the bags are flat, that end of the spring is just bouncing on the frame. I would not drive it that way on the highway. Not sure if your 27 footer is configured the same way.

That's the way my old 84 310 and 86 345 were configured, cut off leaf springs with the airbags the only thing keeping the cut off ends of the springs banging on the frame. The 310 actually had some pretty good grooves hammered into the frame from the air bags being empty.
Like Tony said if you have to drive it without the air suspension working take it slow and easy.

Runs pretty good, has new plugs (ran really rough before adding plugs and now, cross your fingers, its good enough to last the test drive; maybe)
Drive's okay, probably needs tune up (needs new suspension and steering components).
No leaks or oil usage. (oil and coolant are the same as when I checked them 5 minutes ago, before starting the engine.)
Electric spot outside. (I have one too......that doesn't work )
Dual power leather seats (needs new seat covers).........(at only 75,000 miles? or was that 175,000 miles)
Extra- air ride suspension ( rear bags and compressor are pooched but you don't need them to drive the coach, so they must be an extra, like SRS and ABS)
2 awnings that need to be cleaned. ( It has been so long that I've used this coach I have forgotten how to extend the awnings.)
Needs a good polishing job on the outside ( clear coat is pooched requiring you to strip it long before you can think of polishing it.)
God bless and talk to you soon ("Je$u$ ChrI$t, I hope he make it on those 15 year old tires" is what he mutters as you leave his driveway.)
This post was tongue in cheek.
Cheers
Tony

Funny Tony , similar thoughts crossed my mind.
The real disconnect comes when someone asks 15 K for a rig like that and my 310, after putting 125988.- in parts and 5000 hours in labor can may be fetch 22,499.-....We must be fools

Agh...that corner bed kills me....if I can't find the 350 I'm looking for, I'm going to gut my bedroom out of the 325 and put in an East/West queen.

Bob, you should take a good look at the E W bed setup. Really very little room to get around from the back side to go to the bathroom in the night. Or to be of much use when making the bed.
My sleep number mattress does hang a bit beyond the end of the platform.
So maybe with a short mattress it would make for better access around the bed.
On the positive side, laying in the E W bed does create more of an impression of being in a more separate space. Rather than laying in bed and looking down the hall into the rest of the living area.
I do like the E W layout. But am cruising solo, so no issues with being crawled over in the night, dang!
Cheers Richard

First, this one at $4,500 CAN - 35% for US
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-rv-motorhome/...ationFlag=true
Also this one. I did phone him as he initially listed it for only $8,000. Supposedly ordered by the President of Airstream. Front door lock broken, fuel tank rusted out as he can only move it by a 5 gallon direct to the fuel pump; needs master cylinder and last used 15 years ago, so it will need all new tires, possibly callipers rebuilds and lots more. OSB subfloor.

FYI, Sharen Heath of Seattle is going to be selling her 1981 (I believe) 280 relatively soon. It's in nice condition.
