Listing says some panel and door damage, and it is gutted but it is a turbo diesel...

It used to be "Fred's Airstream Archives" and accessed at airstreammotorhomes.com.

Over the course of time, I added pictures of Airstream trailers and now pictures of all sorts of brands. As a result of the broader audience, I changed the name to ViewRVs.com.

And now you know.... the rest of the story!

1982 Airstream Excella 26 Turbo Diesel

I just added this 1982 Airstream Excella 26' Turbo Diesel for sale. 20 mpg is impressive.

1982 Airstream Excella 26 Turbo Diesel Motorhome (A) | ViewRvs.com

I think it is a one-off unit based on the article. Click on the last picture of the article and it opens a PDF that you can actually read. Airstream did not make an Excella 26' unit in 1982 (24' and 28' units are in the brochures). This may have been a custom build. The only 26' motorhomes that I know of are the Argosy 26 models.

That Perkins diesel sounds like a very reliable motor. Strong presence in marine applications like the Isuzu.

Massey-Ferguson tractors used Perkins diesel engines for many years.

Another unusual diesel on the West Coast, this time appearing to be fitted with a Cummins out of a Dodge Ram

I see this is still for sale. That Perkins is a million mile unit, with plenty of power, as it is used to drive big trucks in Europe. It weighs a thousand pounds though, and my question would be how it stops and turns more than how it pulls away.

The 5.8L Isuzu 6BD1A with aftermarket BAE turbo kit that powers many Airstream Classic moho's is around 1100 lbs as well.

Stopping ia an artform in itself with the Classics, which is why I should get a bumper sticker that reads (mirror image of course) "If you cut in front of me and I can't stop in time.....I will smile as you go under"

Cheers
Tony
