Ok, so made it home. Tanked up in Phoenix and drove 665 miles. Filled up again with 57.3 gallons so 11.5 mpg? I'm not totally convinced as I did not double check after the pump clicked off and the needle was not all the way on full- also I think it has an 80 gallon tank and it was showing between one quarter and empty. I would be happy with 11.5!
Had a chance to check it out yesterday. Looks like everything is working...generator, AC units, all appliances and fridge...
Needs new house batteries, cruise may now work after I fixed the switch, front seat recline cable is not working...nothing major.
Interior is in fair shape. One small sag in headliner in the bedroom, carpet and hardwood floor in kitchen could use some love. Exterior needs some love...small dings and clear coat.

Overall driving impression vs P30 based units? Well, it feels like much more of an intentional vehicle. For something this size, all the drive components feel designed for the job. All the mechanical components are easy to reach and troubleshoot. You do need to gear down going up long grades, but 6 gears to choose from is nice. Going up the hill past LA and down the Grapevine was no problem at all...faster than trucks on the way up, and engine brake and downshift on the way down was no stress at all. The ride is fair compared to my 300, but bounce and cornering are much better. Cruising at 65 or 70 is no problem...solid and quiet and did not tire me out as much as driving the 300. The 350le's I have driven feel like a huge bus compared to the 360.

So, 300LE or 36 diesel? The 300 has a cozy feel it it, great layout, nothing you don't need, and love the Classic design. It's easier to drive on smaller back roads that I like to check out. The 36 has the turning radius of a small planet (as Top Gear would say), but only two foot longer wheel base, and for any kind of serious road trips there would be no question...it would be the 36. Guess I need to drive it up the coast...

Really happy to hear it worked out for you. I pick up the 94 on Friday. Need to put tires on it before driving 120 miles home.

Awesome score! Don't know whether to be envious, mad or relieved that you got there first!

The jury is still out. It's either a diamond in the rough or a $19,000 chicken coop. I'll start a thread on the "journey".

I just put my 1982 280 on the Market

I just listed my 1982 280 Classic on ebay. It is quite nice. I am only selling to concentrate on restoration of my Argosy 20 which sits in waiting for funding. My 280 has been lovingly restored with an eye on originality, with upgrades and modernization where necessary. Someone will get a nice one.

Yeah, but the cost of getting it back on the road doesn't!

The purchase cost is only a small portion of that.
