I wouldn't consider a salvage title a show stopper. Labor costs are so high these days that a claim on an older vehicle often leads to a total loss based on book value. I've bought several vehicles at salvage auctions. Most are for repurposing engine swaps and drivetrain upgrades in classic vehicles. I have found a few real gems. Several years ago I found a 98 5.0L Eddy Bauer Ford Explorer. 48,000 miles and like new except for sideswipe damage to the passenger side. I paid $1500 and put another $1000 in a salvage yard front fender, front and rear doors, trim, tires, and a battery. The color even matched. We've been pulling a camper and driving it in the mountains for about 10 years. It's now has 188,000 miles and has been the most reliable and best running vehicle I've ever owned. No payments, no interest, $50a year in registration, and about $300 a year for insurance.

One man's trash can be another man's treasure. Caveat: you have to know what you are getting into.

I suspect those who are knowledgable in the purchase of a salvage title vehicle, have the ability to asses the actual condition accurately, and understand the process of repairing things that go wrong, for these folks there may be huge savings.

For the uninitiated, moho's are so very complicated, multiple electrical systems, slides, suspension, and numerous other systems, I would only suggest this to someone who is fully knowledgable.

in my travels I ran into a fellow who purchased a Prevost, about 15 years old which had a small fire, and he obtained it for about $8,000. In good condition it would have been about $200,000. After spending about $25,000, in his own repair shop, he had a moho which appeared new and had all mechanicals fully checked out. This is the way to go if one can, but maybe not for the faint of heart. Of course, maintenance on a moho can get big in a hurry unless one has access to shop facilities....as in owning the shop..

That holds true for all used motorhomes. Especially these 20+ year old classics. Salvage or clear title.

How in the world do they put a $40,000 truck and a $44,000 trailer together and get $196,000?

"This is not your typical motor home and I am aware that one can buy a run of the mill motor home for far less so no need to remind me of that fact. This is for an individual that desire a functioning work of art that will give years of enjoyment."

Must be like putting $20 worth of paint on a $10 piece of canvas and asking $10,000. It's art man!

We were walking through a gallery and saw a metal sculpture of some coil springs and brake drums welded together to look like a cluster of mushrooms growing on a cow flop. I said who on earth would pay $1200 for that pile of scrap. A few hours later some guy with a dejected look was schlepping it out of the gallery with his giddy wife dancing around him!

Regardless if one likes it or not, got to give the person credit for having a vision and the determination to pull it through to the end. A virtue many are lacking...

I agree Peter, and it has also got me thinking. Personally, why do I think that example doesn't work, yet I think almost an identical concept looks amazing???? Maybe to the right person the Sprinter combo appears the same.
