I'll bet the investment cost of "recent improvements" will also likely increase before it makes it to California. I'd keep it at home and wait for the buyer to come to me. Good luck.

I dont know much about "salvage titles" being issued but is having been "keyed" enough to be considered salvage? Ive always assumed that a salvage would mean that the repair would cost more than the value of the vehicle. They say its value is "over $200,000", hehehehe , I cant imagine the repair would cost that much. I must be missing something with the meaning of salvage title.

I keep having this smell of fish in my nostrils...... salvage title, because it was vandalized....... yikes. This I would be extremely cautious in approaching.

While it is absolutely beautiful, the legal issues involved are huge. An attorney familiar with title laws may need to be consulted prior to purchasing anything with a price of $75,000 and "salvage title".

My take is that the Motorhome was not insured for a stated value. When it got vandalized the damage exceeded the insurance company's perceived value. The owner should have increased the stated value as he did these expensive improvements.
If you are not able to get a policy with a stated value, keep every receipt you have in case of some unfortunate event. It will help you to fight the insurance company. I had 2 major claims on Airstreams and learned a lot.
Salvage/rebuild titles are no disaster unless the vehicle is deemed unsafe to operate.

A salvage title means essentially IMO, based on what car rebuilders have told me, is this could have been reconstructed from any components and an inspection by someone intimately acquainted with this model motorhome would be advisable. Many salvage titles arise from flood damage, and in some cases, the only evidence shows up years later in profound electrical problems, basically not solvable unless a complete rebuild is done.... Most likely this would not be financially feasible.
As I have been told by insurance folks, one must demonstrate a value before an insurance company will insure for anything much above book value.

So, a salvage title would, IMO, place the unit value at book or lower.

Laws do vary from state to State, but generally you are correct.
The difference comes into play with Airstreams that have extensive exterior damage, due to the high cost of panel replacements, if done correctly. The most expensive panels to replace are the long upper and lower side panels, which can cost between 5-10k. If you want original buck rivets, add a few more thousands.
This fact quickly brings the repair to the 75 or 80% of the book or stated value, to be deemed "salvaged" by the insurance company.
Many insurance companies offer you to purchase the Airstream back from them for a dime. If you decide to do that, you will receive a new title called a salvaged/rebuilt title. No work was done to the Airstream at that time and yet its called a salvaged/rebuilt title.
I personally once received a substantial payment and a salvage title for hail damage. On a second occasion a barely avoided the salvage title because of my agreed upon stated value. In both occasions I had to work hard to provide repair cost estimates and/or improvement investments to the insurance company.
