Another unusual diesel on the West Coast, this time appearing to be fitted with a Cummins out of a Dodge Ram

Airstream diesel

I think it is a one-off unit based on the article. Click on the last picture of the article and it opens a PDF that you can actually read. Airstream did not make an Excella 26' unit in 1982 (24' and 28' units are in the brochures). This may have been a custom build. The only 26' motorhomes that I know of are the Argosy 26 models.
I see this is still for sale. That Perkins is a million mile unit, with plenty of power, as it is used to drive big trucks in Europe. It weighs a thousand pounds though, and my question would be how it stops and turns more than how it pulls away.

The 5.8L Isuzu 6BD1A with aftermarket BAE turbo kit that powers many Airstream Classic moho's is around 1100 lbs as well.

Stopping ia an artform in itself with the Classics, which is why I should get a bumper sticker that reads (mirror image of course) "If you cut in front of me and I can't stop in time.....I will smile as you go under"

Cheers
Tony

Would be a good starting point for a mechanical and interior rebuild

1981 converted to diesel

I'm looking at a 28' Excella... says it has 70k miles but I'm not sure if that's the Excella or the motor.

The bathroom was dismantled to accommodate a larger holding tank. Needs to be recarpeted, and the passenger seat is missing.

I didn't see any big bumps or bruises. He says everything works, but I still want to get some inspectors out to check it out.

Anything specific I should watch or be wary of?

An owner that says everything works, its never leaked and the subfloor is in immaculate condition.

Where is the moho so people can maybe direct you to a nearby member.

Cheers

I am looking for a 91 or 92 350LE. Keep your eyes peeled and if you see one, let me know. I am going to sell my 390XL, and the 325LE when I find the right one.

There's a '92 on eBay:

Yes, this is exactly what I am looking for, e-mailed the seller for more pictures, it has a salvage title, asked about that, and everything froze in it a few winters ago. Hopefully will find out more about it soon.

I saw the 1992 350 on EBay, requested more info on the salvage title and the owner told me it was due to the repairs from being not properly winterized and everything froze. It appears to be located in northern Michigan or Canada...I'm not sure. It is the same color scheme as my 325 which I like but it's not a critical decision breaker. I have requested more pictures from the owner but have nothing since...any thoughts ???

Maybe run the VIN with Carfax? Something seems odd to me. In order to do enough damage to total it, they would have had to leave the water lines pressurized, left the unit unattended, pipes froze, pipes thawed, water flooded the coach.

Seems odd that the coach would get totaled from a simple water leak under normal conditions. It is unlikely that ALL of the pipes froze and burst. Also, the pipes are pretty close together. Airstream wasn't about to run copper all over the place and the plumbing is usually located near the furnaces (intentionally). Proceed with caution.

I also saw a story about cars from the Houston area floods being cleaned and shipped to used car dealers around the country. Carfax would show it was flooded and totaled IF you pull the report.

That one looks like the whole thing could be painted and no metal exposed. Could be hail damage one who knows what...if you ever wanted to strip or polish it. Otherwise, looks really nice.
