Classic Airstream Motorhome Insurance

Have a question for those who have Airstream Classic motorhomes. Who do you have for your vehicle insurance?
Was at the Tampa RV Show recently, and spoke with one of the Insurance Representatives there. Told Representative that I had a friend who 'insisted' that I get full coverage on my 23 year old motorhome.
The Rep's response was interesting to say the least. (I currently have Liability only on the motorhome, simply because I'm not driving it much at all). Thought that when I got out on the road, I'd change policy to full coverage, even though that would mean over $300 increase every 6 months. The Insurance Rep told me that even with full coverage, should there be an accident, the replacement cost would only be for actual value, not replacement value.
Does anyone carry a policy with one of the various 'Vintage Auto' companies? I'm wondering if anyone has a full replacement policy. Or do these vintage auto companies even offer policies for 'vintage' motorhomes?
Thanks for your response, Derek

I have mine with AAA, and whilst I have the Multi-Vehicle discount and I am over 50... just!
I just looked at my policy...
I have the Airstream fully covered, with the Minimum mileage(2500pa), and an Agreed Value of $10,000.
My premium is $161 for the year.
Now, when I start using it, I will bump the mileage and value up, so it will rise, but for now I am happy.

Derek,

We have our 1984 270 and our 1967 restored GT with Progressive for agreed value. So , in the event of a disaster we are covered for what the value is. We insured the 270 for the purchase price for "agreed value and we had the Globe Trotter appraised and we went for the coverage of what the receipts added up for the restoration. If you like call Marlene at Miller Insurance 1800-622-6347. Miller Insurance is license with multiples of companies and they are licensed to work in most states.

We have Foremost, "full-timers", which is a division of Safeco. They've been with us for almost twenty years and we've had a couple of nasty ones that they paid, no problem.
We pay about $800.00 a year, well worth it.

You might try Blue Sky RV insurance or check with Hagerty. I have Blue Sky and they were great on my hail claim.

That's too bad. I have them for my Mustang and it's very well priced.

Yeah, Hagerty is pretty good. I paid like $98 last time for my agreed value policy.
I think AAA's $161 for the M/H is pretty sweet too.
As I said, I will need to bump that up to $15k minimum when she is smogged and roadworthy, as well as look at the mileage when that time comes.

Good thread Derek!

Guess I'm going to have to sit at computer and try each and every one of the recommendations here. First, I'll call GEICO and see if they will accept an appraisal value for replacement value. Bates RV (local Airstream dealer) does appraisals, having the time to get moho there will be my only problem!
Thanks for all that contributed, Derek

Hi,
I've checked with all insurance companies mentioned here, but guessing after being a GEICO customer for so long, I must be getting a good discount. Of course, I'm checking quotes for the Airsteam and my daily driver (2011 VW CC). No one is coming close to current policy. Once Airstream is road ready, I'll check again. Never hurts to keep my options open.
Thanks, Derek

Great discussion. I am looking at a Argosy motorhome and Progressive indicated they would insure it for (1) Actual Value or (2) Agreed value. They will set the initial Agreed Value at the actual purchase price on the bill of sale. Seeing that the unit needs lots of repairs and restoration, I'll need to get it appraised after I invest the money in the work.

I do suggest that owners check their policy. Airstream trailers and motorhomes are typically undervalued by the services (which just depreciate over time using a fixed schedule). I have had multiple people contact me for sales information while debating actual value with their insurance company.

Had GMAC on our 1981 Classic Excella that we totaled in Nov 2009. I feel we were not treated fairly in the settlement. Had just had new decals and lower paint job at a cost of apx $4,000 done in Aug 2009. Not enough allowed for the upgrade. They had me do the leg work on price comparisons which should have been their job. They only found one price of a compariable Excella that did not have any upgrades. We found one in CA but GMAC would not accept the info because it had a rebuilt ISUZU engine.

We will not use Good Sam GMAC. We have gone to Allstate.
