Service, every oil change, Service

as I was discussing with a forum member from Florida.

Very few service these great Units as recommended.

I am Now running a Shaffer's Synthetic, Transmission fluid and will drain and change every 3 to 5,000 miles.

So far so very good

Back when I bought mine the service interval was every 10 K with ATF. Shortly after that they changed it to every 10k with the Syntor synthetic oil that is used in my Dodge transmission.
Now it looks like they halved that. I did change mine religiously but still had enough problems that I finally got rid of it.
Hopefully they are doing better now as a few years have past.
Looks like we are not too many miles apart.

Im using amsoil synthetic. I change it every oil service at 3-5k aswell.

That's almost overkill, but I like it! When you change to synthetic, is it as simple as just switching over, or should some kind of cleaning be done. Most guys I've met that run amsoil claim to not change it for 10k, or so. I've never believed them! What's the deal, they make it in multi-grade for the diesel and 90 weight for the o'drive and rear end? Transmission?

Mike, I dropped the finned Pan, cleaned the filter and inside, outside with a parts cleaner.

re assembled and filled with fresh synthetic Transmission fluid. I used schaeffer's. what we use on the farm.
But any synthetic with specs the same as, or better than, and compatible with Dextron will work.

Hi Mike,

My GV is a new unit with about 13k on it now. The first time I ran the GM fluid that GV specs for it. I let it go for about 7000 miles and it would disengage hard after that many miles. Now im running the amsoil and when coming to a stop it falls out like butter now and engages nicely too. I think I will only go as far as 5k. I bought a whole case of the amsoil and it was about $160.00 dollars. Its good for about 11 oil changes.
