Can you tow a Classic?

Hi All,

We are going for our usual 3-4 months in southern Baja soon and we'd like to get the 345 moho down there. However, we're having trouble finding enough time in our schedule to allow for a leisurely trip down the 1000 miles of very narrow highway.

Turns out there is a guy people like and trust a lot who does this kind of transportation to our area there. He does RVS, boats, etc.

He seems to be in the habit of towing pretty big motor homes with his gigantic pickup. i know it would make more sense for someone to drive ours, but is it even possible for him to tow a 345 moho all wheels down, if that's what he prefers to do? Has anyone here tried this? I know when I've had it towed for repair Good Sam uses a flatbed.

Actually, I've just heard from the guy and even he thinks that the best way to transport it would be for him to drive it. So unless you're just interested in chiming in with your experience on the question, there's no pressing need; I guess I don't have to be prepared to discuss his preference to tow it.

For what its worth, my Dad towed a old Chevy bread truck (P30 panel truck) 350 and manual 4 speed. He made up a heavy duty tow bar and pulled it full, most of the time with licence plates! It was only, I think 16' or less. He did not disconnect the drive shaft to do this. With the automatics we have, you would have to drop the drive shaft I would think. You would trash the rear bearings of the trans if you did not.

He pulled the (we called Frog) behind a 1972 40' Silver Eagle he converted to a MO. 318 Detroit diesel with Allison 4 speed auto.

All that being said, I would not do it! Our rigs a much bigger, and would not take the chance!

Yes, I agree, it's not even worth trying. It could be a nightmare. We're just going to drive it or leave it up north.

I mean, after all, it is a MOTORhome, right? :-)
