Just joking.
Believe it or not....Cypress Lake at Five Fathoms National Park has a 27' limit; I sign in with 27' and show up with 32.5' bumper to bumper. If you take the middle way out of the park (like you're suppose too), both my rear and front are rubbing against tree branches getting around two of the corners. Another 1.5' and you'd be in trouble, it's that tight. The last time I went, I actually backed up the way I went in, as they hadn't trimmed any of the trees in a couple of years since the last time I had been there.

I just really don't want a tag axle.....

Cheers

Yeah, that's the downside of the 310....I have an extra 1 1/2 feet of wheelbase over Johns 325......He can turn on a preverbal dime; me, not so much.

You guys are funny sitting around the campfire talking about how big your "units" are.

At any rate I'm tied up for a couple of days so I can't play too much.

Funny you mention "Unicorn" that is the name of our sail boat that we lived on many years ago. We have owned her since 1980. Maybe I took pictures next to the wrong Sis.

The Cummins does not have an intercooler. The B series started in 1984 in a joint effort with Case tractors. The first Cummins in a Dodge was 1989 so prior to that it was not a widely known engine. I haven't had a chance yet to check the CPL number to see what spec it was built to.

I hate the tag axle set up and would never considered this coach were it not for the Cummins/Allison set up, it was just too much to pass up. I have been mulling around a work around in the back of my feeble mind. If I come up with a fix I'll let you know. This certainly isn't the only tag axle vehicle on the road.

There are several other unusual things on this coach. I'll get pictures and explanations when I get some free time.

Well I got to play a bit today. I found the company that was original owner and they are still in business. I gave them a call and the receptionist remembered the coach. She wants me to talk to the company owner who will be back from vacation next week. She also said the owner's father ran the company when the coach was purchased and he is still around. The company does chemical testing and the coach was a mobile test lab that they took to oil refineries for onsite testing.

It originally was equipped with two generators and two propane tanks. It still has both tanks and lots of plumbing under the coach.

The generator doors are a little different.

The street side compartment is now a storage locker. One propane tank is street side behind drivers seat and the other is curb side behind the tag axle.

Somebody was thinking with their noggin!

Certainly a whole lot better than access for my Argosy generator. Having just one cable holding up a generator does pose a concern or two if the end bolts accidently rust out Kinda like people that never lower their cable supported spare tire yearly and grease the cable; then wonder where the spare tire went as they look up to see the splintered remains of the cable. You'll want to keep an eye on that system.

Your coach is just a treasure trove of nifty stuff.

Cheers

Looks like the cable is only for lowering the genset once the pins are pulled in the support rails...wonderful design for accessibility...

Yes and it is very easy to operate. That is a short 3/8" breaker bar and the cable winch has a self holding brake.

Just too cool. When I replaced the points n condenser on my Onan I had to wiggle my IPad in there on top of the motor, had the camera turned on, and used it to see the points and set the gap. It worked! But access to the back is impossible without dropping the genny.

I realize you are still getting to know the new coach but are you planning on keeping the two propane tanks and piping them into a single system. My first thought is I would try and keep both tanks. Propane can be a bit of a pain to find on long trips. Having two tanks with double the capacity sounds great to me.
Especially for cold weather camping. What an absolutely unique coach you landed. I can understand how you couldn't resist the purchase. SO COOL!

The cable on the gen set mount isn't really holding anything except when lowering for service. The spring clip pins are providing the support and other than surface corrosion there is no sign of any wear.

Being basically lazy I doubt I will be removing a propane tank just for the exercise. If somewhere down the road we decide we need more storage one of the tanks will go. We will just have to see it we can find a place for all our junk.

Yeah another Airstream is the last thing I need but it was just too tempting.

Well it's been awhile and I've been trying to get some other projects out of the way so not much time available to play.

The engine runs like a top but was hard to start without a jump. I pulled and cleaned all the junction and battery terminals without much improvement. Bought a new starting battery, again little improvement. I pulled the starter and it seems a little sluggish so I bought a new one, still no improvement. Finally I bought a new 2 gauge battery cable that goes from the + post on the battery to the last junction before the starter, also added another ground strap. Finally it starts on the single starting battery. I guess some of the old cables were tired.

While I was tinkering I replaced the battery isolator up front and the coolant recovery tank. Also replaced the broken pull handle on the Keeler lock on the back door. All little stuff but you have to do it sometime.

I pulled the instrument panel back to take a look. It doesn't look too molested but I have to look at replacing a few of the gauges so that is the next step.

Yes it was sold as an empty shell and built into a mobile chemical testing lab. The second owner had a local Airstream dealer install an RV interior. The odometer shows 53,000 miles on an after market speedometer. The furnishings show very little wear.

Well guys I was playing around with the new toy today and got the leveling jacks working. I cycled the jacks a few times and then went out to see how they looked. To my surprise the right rear jack was about 3" off the ground. I went inside and operated the rear jack again and felt a definite bump as it hit the ground. Went outside and the damn thing is still 3" off the ground.

In frustration I went in the house and grabbed the better half. With her in the drivers seat I stand outside and watch the jack go all the way to the ground. OK everything looks good so I walk around and all the other jacks look good and the right rear is still down, doesn't seem to bleed down. All seems well so I told the boss an shut it down. As I close the door and start to walk away I notice something hanging down behind the generator. So I take a closer look and there in the shadow are two leveling jacks in front of the rear axle. This crazy thing has 6 leveling jacks. There are 4 control levers so I'm guessing the rear jacks are teed together to operate 2 jacks from a single control. Anyway another unique feature.
