Anyone ever try to polish the bumpers?

I just polished the front bumper while I waited for the hurricane to arrive. Looks pretty good to me. Rear bumper is next. Then I need to mount the front tag/plate below the front bumper. Thanks for looking, Steve G

That looks really nice. It never occurred to me to polish the bumpers.
Once you start you have to finish though.
I think I'll go out & try a small corner. Pete

Yes, it's addictive

First it was the wheels then on to the bumpers. It may be too shiny? I'm an old hot rodder so having it shine like chrome just looks right to me. I wonder if these parts shined like this when they were new?

Gord's polish is what I used. It is not a real polish but more of some kind of cleaner that takes off corrosion. I did use a Dual Action machine polisher which probably accounts for the high level of shine. The hard part is stripping off the clear coat so you can get to the aluminum beneath. The rear bumper is the last thing I plan on polishing as I like the look of the clear coat on the body as OEM.

Steve, if you are an old hot rodder, then you know that there is no such thing as "too shiny" (unless it's a rat rod!) LOL

That looks fantastic!!
I'm in the middle of polishing my entire 325. I've got a long way t go before attacking the wheels and bumpers. Thanks for the inspiration. What type of wheel or pad did you use with the Gord's? I bought some from Gord (what a character!) a while ago, but haven't really tried it yet.

Charly.

wow, never thought about the bumpers or wheels for that matter. Tell us what type of 'dual-action' buffer you have, and where to purchase one. I'm in the market for a replacement, but really don't want to spend 3K like Myrtle Lynn did, lol. Thanks, Derek

My dual action buffer

is labeled McGuires but I bet it is made by porter cable or someone like that. It was given to me by a good friend in return for rebuilding his engine off his Vespa scooter. He gave me 3 pads with it. Heavy, medium and fine. I used each one twice on the bumper. The only hint I can give you when you try this is to wear an apron. It gets messy. Steve G

For lazy boys (like myself), I've had semi good luck just removing the bumper and using "Mother's" wheel polish.

I found my Cyclo on Craigslist for $100, Crazee... I would get one of those!

As far as bumper polishing goes.... Mine is rear is broken... if I get it MIG or TIG welded, and polished, will it polish/match/blend ok?

Man a guy goes out of town for a few days and people start talking about him. By the way we're pushing 9,000 miles here in New Brunswick.
I'm still waiting to see Keyair cast off the lines and see if the wheels will still roll. I think Dadstoy finally found the asphalt.

Cheers, Dan

Ya but my boat is a ground and it does not not look like it is coming off even at the full moon this year. Next summer I hope to meet up with you guys.
