Door bells.

Airstream uses a 24 volt AC doorbell.

24 volts AC is equal to 16.98 volts DC.

24 divided by 1.414. Dividing AC by 1.414 gives the effective DC voltage.

In 64 Airstream used a dual voltage transformer and called it a "Univolt".
It provided 12 volts AC for the lights and 19 volts AC for the vent fan motors.

Therefore a 24 volt AC door bell works quite well on 12 volts DC.

Thanks so much for the great tip. I went to Home Depot and picked one up for $7 and it works great. We just upgraded the stereo system from the 'old 8-track' and I also added a satellite radio. Sounds great so far!

My 9 y/o son uses the doorbell whether the door is closed or open. He loves it.
