access to fuel gauge from inside moho ?

Hello. My fuel gauge ( excella 28 / 1981 ) is blocked ... Is it possible to make a trapdoor through the floor just above the fuel tank ? ( bad idea ? ) Thank you.

I did a trap floor in my subfloor but elected not to cut the engineered hardwood flooring above as I can unclick it to can access to the door.

Thank you Isuzusweet....It's done ! A little trap floor less of 1 x 1 foot just between the frame above the gauge. It was bad positioned ( !!!! ) and blocked by the side of the tank and I rotate the gauge of 45 deg. I have checked and the ohm meter give me a range from 5 ohm to 98 ohm. I suppose it's right...
