Does it happen to mention why I might be breaking an alternator belt for the 3rd time in two years. Drove to the Bash in PA and home with not a squeal or problem. I pulled out at 6am yesterday and after 10 minutes running, loud squeal then break. belt wrapped aroun fan but I took it back home parked and will tackle when there is a slight break in this heat. any suggestions? I have a 1984 Excella 270 moho.

Check that all your pulleys are exactly on the same plane. One pulley set back or forward of the others will eat belts quickly.

Also, with something this old, unless you have had it since new, who knows what has been replaced. Check the pulley grooves for smoothness, no wobbles or bent belt groove sides. No nicks or cracks. Also note how the belt rides in the groove. If somebody has replaced components, the pulley could be the wrong width. The belt should not protrude above the sides of the groove, nor should it sit too low in the groove. You should be able to see about 1/16 - 1/8" or so of pulley side above the back of the belt as it rests in the groove under adjustment tension. (I am assuming the original v-belts are in place, serpentine belts are a little different)

I am the third owner. I have original receipt from 1st owner in TX. 2nd owner was in RI and put another miles??? he drove it in all 50 states. then put new engine in and put 25,000 miles on it before his health changed and they fly to travel now. We bought it in March of 08 and drove it back to Ohio with no prob. I will look into the things you have advised . Thank you so much.
