I was going to the shop to relax today and you know what happens......6 hours later got a few more things done....shop and tools still a mess. I finished up the water connection from the new reel to the inside of the motor home under the bed, also hooked up the garden hose connection in the utility compartment. I finished repairing the black tank flush out....Charly, you will like these pictures of the wall cavity between the bathroom and the bedroom. I also finished installing the 45" septic hose holder which replaced the original 20" holder in the utility compartment. Did I mention re-newing the back up camera.....I did that to.

With so many systems apart at the current moment I've been a little fogged lately. Everything is moving forward....slowly. I finished the entrance door latch yesterday as well as the installation of the 6/4 SOOW cable from the left rear of the 370LE to the front right dinette area where the electrical bay resides under the dinette. Rear camera conversion also finished, had a hard time tracing out the reverse pick-up wire !!!! This is my first Gillig chassis project and everything is new to me. Also found out why the wipers did not work, so I got a bonus on that. Sometimes you have to ask why previous owners do what they do....Wiring the switches to the reels (power) for the electric and water has been time consuming. The air bag replacement is all finished with the exception of repairing a right front air line. All the brakes are done and bleed out. All new shocks including tag axle have been installed....thanks Andy for the tag axle shocks. New TV's are ready to be installed and will be finishing up the water delivery system into the 370LE as well. All 9 rims have been polished and hopefully will go on this Saturday for a road test. Will adjust the height of the 370LE as per the Gillig manual on Saturday as well. Regards, Bob

Installed the factory door catch (thanks Andy), all 9 rims polished and ready to go on. Should be able to finish the 50 amp conversion, reel switches and a few other items for a road test on Saturday afternoon....rain or shine, removed the wiper arms and removed the black paint from them....sprayed them silver metallic.....will try to post current pictures tomorrow morning. So now the electrical/water compartment is finally done. Kind of scary when you think about the high amperage AC and the H2O being together, but it is what it is (As they say), both TV's installed, Navigation up and going, not that I need it for the trip to Cooperstown, but it was just on the schedule so we did it. Saturday will be a big work day with hopefully a road test.....more to follow, Regards, BobClick image for larger version

Looking beautiful Bob! (as expected) Your talent, knowledge, and execution is impeccable to say the least. Cant wait to see the 370 in person, maybe at our next CLASSIC MOTORHOME GET TOGETHER.

I think I'm in love with that utility compartment ( I think I can safely say that here ). Bob that is so clean / new looking. Excellent work.

I've got to ask about crew. How many folks are helping with your project?

I did hear some conjecture on hi test coffee, what kind?

Cheers Richard

I do about 98% of the work myself. It's rare that I have both of my guys helping me....only when you need 5 hands. My primary guy actually enjoys it...must be a German thing...you know, superior gene pool and all the rest. Running the long cable and electrical runs sure does help having the third hand. Plus it gives us a break from doing the Snap-On thing. Tomorrow morning we are going to burn the bees and pull all the AC stuff off that old ambulance. When we get back to the shop we'll finish the 6/4 SOOW run for the 50 amp conversion, wheels on, final system check, then road test hopefully around 4PM. Regards, Bob

So today was a solid 12 hours on the 370LE, I finished installing the color Alpine back up camera and adjusting it, we finished the 6/4 SOOW cable run, very tough stuff to work with, adjusted the rear leveling system, I think I may have a bad left rear valve.....will look into that more over the winter, changed the oil and greased the front end, no grease fittings on the tie rod ends so I am going to change them out with Moog units over the winter just because of age, and I think the alternator took a crap during our road test at 6:3-0 tonight. Charly....you'll be happy to know...the brakes...all I did was replace the pads, clean the slides, never-seez the slides and gravity bleed all 4 corners and now the brakes work exactly as they should. Note however that after the Cooperstown trip next weekend I still plan on doing the pressure test between the pump and the steering box and between the steering box and the Hydro-Max before I remove the steering box and ship it to Texas for repair of the sector shaft seal. I will keep you informed on that progress. Tomorrow brings another full day for me, I still have to hook up the fresh water system and test the electrical AC power reel so I don't let the smoke out when I get to the campground. I also switched out the spot light remote control with the one I had from the 325LE and it works perfectly.

Great looking job Sir.
Did you get new hub centers or polish up the originals?

How do I find the mo ho CLASSIC group?

Thanks
Howard

As in 'find' on the forum Howard?

There is a 'Airstream Knowledgebase' (one of the types of forum) that you can get to by clicking here http://www.airforums.com/forums/f156/

Within that knowledgebase are the sub-groups for MH type (you will see the link to Classics, you can get to it my clicking the link), however sometimes folks post in the parent group (under the main forum heading - you may have to scroll down your page to see those posts) and also there is a sub-group for General and one for Mechanics so it is often worth looking at the main parent knowledgebase first.

I had a nice conversation with Charly today...it gave me a break that I needed to walk away for a few minutes. Today I finished about 80% of the interior plumbing that I need to do before Cooperstown... I had to pull the 90 gallon or so fresh water tank out to gain access for the PEX crimping tool. Thank God it was empty. I pressure tested the new water reel and other plumbing up to the ball valve that I installed under the bed. I finished up wiring the X leg of the 50 amp service to the original 30 amp transfer switch and insulated the Y leg so it would not short out. I am planning on installing the 50 amp transfer switch and new circuit breaker panel over the winter. The alternator is OK, the belt came way lose because the pulleys are out of alignment....another issue from the previous owner and will be corrected over the winter. A very small anti freeze leak has developed over the last month. I believe it to be the radiator, I will pressure test and confirm after Cooperstown. 2 or three more mornings of work and I should be ready to go.

Another trip to lowe's and napa....it seems weekly to me, anywhere from $75.00 to $150.00 I probably have enough PEX fittings to do 3 Airstreams completely from stem to stern. I think I have every stainless #6 through #14 screw made from 1/2" to 2" in length. Like I don't have enough to do already...just purchased a few roller bearing drawer slides...,.maybe I'll take them camping this weekend.....in case of rain. Or snow
