325 wipers

Hey,
Has anyone tryed to tie the wipers together, to make them work as one unit. I know they got a synchronizer box, but it's not perfect. That drives my crazy, them doing there own thing. I just left them off, and used rain X. Suggestions?DJ

My 280 has 2 motors in the center. The passenger side is direct while the drivers side connected with a link about 2' long. The problem is the drivers side pivot sits around the corner so it is at an angle to the drive. This wore out the link and pivot bearing. I rebuilt the pivot and built a new link with a spherical bearing in the end. The 345 I have has the drivers side motor moved to the side with a direct drive eliminating the long link and alignment problem. I don't know when they made this change.

You could fabricate a long link to run off the passenger side motor but it may create a power issue. I don't know if these motors are strong enough to run two blades, you may need to go to a bigger motor drive but it could be done.

This may just be an old wives tale but I had heard that wipers on big rigs and buses were originally kept out of sync to keep from having the drivers fall asleep due to the hypnotic effect of having them operate in sync.

I tried googling to see if I could find more info on the subject but wasn't successful.

Hey,
I read that too about keeping the driver from getting drowsy. I drove a 90s something freight liner, that still had vacuum powered wipers. Go figure. They did the same thing our coaches do. Annoying.
I owned 2 GMC motor homes. The wiper setup is really close to the setup on our coaches. They ran one motor, and yes it is bigger, but the location of the wipers appears to be close to our setup. I think the arm length, and wiper blades are the. Same size as an AS. If memory serves my right, I think the wiper motor was on the drivers side. May be worth looking into. DJ

If someone could transplant a gmc setup into an airstream classic that would be ideal

The GMC motohome wipers are hydraulically controlled and infinitely adjustable
