310 dump tank valves
I am getting a little confused!
Does any one have an idea on what model/type the Thetford dump valves are? - I have a drip!! - on the black tank..... Found out about it when on a rally and someone commented on a "horrible smell some where, wafting about!" ......
I wouldn't mind betting some thing is stopping the valve close or fouling the seal, but how do you get at it, short of removing the toilet and pushing a flue brush or high pressure jet down the outlet.
I have decided, rightly or wrongly, to do a seal change as it would seem the valves are bonded in, but what model is it? The manual gives numbers not shown in RV catalogues, and I couldn't find a definitive answer in the forums. And, is it worth while fitting the more common 3" valve?
The other problem.... RV Stores seem reluctant to send to the UK.
Hope someone can help a "smelly" 310!!!

I had a seeping of black water into the drain cap area, nasty when I hooked up the drain hose. The valve handle were hard to push in so I applied a thin coat of petroleum jelly to the valve handle and worked them in and out several times. They were easier to close after that and it stopped my leak. maybe your valve isn't closing all the way. Do you find a drip? What is the location.

Our 345 just has the standard valve that you can get anywhere. 4 screws and nuts, easy fix.

I replaced both valves and the "Y" that joins them on my rig. Used standard size valves and a flexible "Y". On my rig, it was very difficult to get the old valves out because there was no clearance, I ended up cracking the "Y" that joins them to the output. Once I got it all apart I found that the valve was not closing because there was something that shouldn't have gone into the tank stuck in the valve. I put in new standard valves just for good measure.
Can you post a picture of your valve set-up so I can see if it is the same as mine?

Looks like the same setup as mine. The problem I ran into was that in order to remove the valves, I needed some clearance between the tank, valve, and 'Y'. In the process of trying to do this, I broke the 'Y'. I replaced it with a flexible one I got at the hardware store. I'm on the road at the moment but should be home this weekend, I could take some photos and send them then. If you like my set up I'd be willing to try to find the same parts I used and mail (post?) them to you.

Thank you every one, it has been a great help.
I will look forward to your photos.
I am in mid England later today and hope to reach a couple of RV dealers, and see what hey have, if nothing I may be taking up some offers.
Many thanks again

Well I took some measurements..... and found that all the pipes are 3.1/2" OD and the new (Valtera) valves need a clamp of some sort to fit the valve. The trouble is all the fittings I have seen in the various catalogues are 3"; I assume OD. Is there a bush to reduce the size or is it a case of "push to fit" with a little anger?
Help!!

my valves are bad too...one of the handles fell off completely, the other is so bent it will not close.
before i (or some unfortunate soul) start this nasty job, i would like to ask if if you guys had to cut off the seals or valves, and replace some of the upper line pipe and/or fittings, or was it a simple removal replacement job for standard valves.
was it a coupla' hour job? or 3 days of plumbing part finding, accidentally cracking 25 y.o. pvc nightmare?
can you tell I'm scared...
yup, it's time to go for a drive with the bleachy water,

I broke the "Y" which connects the tanks to the outlet in the process of removing the valves. I replaced it with a soft rubber "Y" which makes removing the valves a snap. I had to fabricate a support to hold the output pipe but that was easy.

I've got a 1972 25' Safari,-----the valve is dripping. How do I get at it, it seems to be behind the curvy thing under the bumper. There is a snapped in bag storage behind the toilet I haven't looked in yet. Can anyone tell me what's in my future----valve wise?
