310 classic motorhome owners thread

Is there a thread dedicated specifically to owners of the classic 310 motorhome? Or would a thread like this even be warranted? Just a thought and seeking feedback from everyone who owns a classic, 310 or other. We owners of classic motorhomes share a great deal in common regardless of which model we have, yet there are differences obviously model to model. It seems that there are a vast majority of the 345 model owners who are regular contributors on the forum here and many owners of the 280s. I was just wondering if it would be a worthy endeavor to dedicate a thread to owners of the 310 model, both gas and the turbo diesel, where issues, repairs, parts, and such that may be unique to the 310s could be discussed. I dont know.....what do you folks think about something like that, or heck it may exsist already and i havent run across it because of my being tech challenged in navigation of the forums. Ideas?

The 310 and 345 models are so closely related...
Except for the tag axle, the running gear is identical.
I think that what is valid for one, is valid for the other, both ways.
Dad's Toy's thread is a great one, and very 310 specific, but tons of cross over info.
There is no reason why you shouldn't start a thread called, say "310 Owners" or similar, and use that as a principle thread... there would be good stuff for all, and the more active threads, and members the better!

I have been hard at work on mine all this week as work got slow. I have built new lower cabinets for my rear convertible lounge with far deeper and taller drawers. Also new bathroom cabinet, kitchen cabinet with three more drawers and a whole new face frame for the fridge side with a two 35l laundry recycling pullout bins taking the place of my tiny little freezer. New counter tops for all cabinets to match the back ones I did last year. All to go in once I have the Torly's engineered hardwood flooring in and the new vinyl wall coverings on.

I will be taking some pics and posting them on my Mistress thread.

310"s RULE!!!! at least the turbo diesel ones do…….especially as gas has hit $1.38.00 a litre up here or $5.23 a US gallon.

Looking forward to seeing your pics. I have yet to get some good pis of mine uploaded to the forums here. Since the weather finally broke here i too have been hard at work on my 310. Its getting there, i have about completed all the mechanical repairs and maintenance items. Long long list!!! But shes road worthy and im feeling more and more confident with reliability now. Now im getting started on the fun stuff, the interior. Deep cleaning and new sound system went in this week.

picturespictures! i;m working on my interior and need more ideas....especially how and where to put a bathtub lolz, or at least a much bigger shower.

we have sold all our interior, working on the floors and want a completely modern interior, appliances and fixtures.
have a big round sink and cooktop and will build a rounded long countertop over where the toilet is currently, so the potty has to move.

if there is one thing i wish our 310s had is the fridge on the drivers side.
it makes me envious of the 280s

but it sure is spacious and open in there without the walls and overhead bins...a fresh slate, and a through going over of the placement of appliances and much more storage

Don't be too envious Mary, the fridge on my 280 is on the passenger side just aft of the door.

Our early 280 and current 310 have fridges located as Dan described, curb-side. Can't imagine the work to switch them over to roadside, or why. Here we are at 8k in eastern arizona for the summer.

I'm not sure why a fridge placement, driver or passenger side is a big thing???? One thing for sure, moving the fridge would be a breeze compared to moving the potty along with the black water tank and all the plumbing associated with it.

One thing for sure as I saw that you have sold off ALL your interior (including end caps???) that you're in for a hell of va ride. Just remember one thing, and it's the most important thing to remember…..Watch your weight and keep it as light as possible or you're going to regret it. Weight affects not only acceleration but handling and braking as well.

Be careful of extra storage….I got rid of the furnace and the Nutone which has allowed me to add a big drawer below the microwave and another four drawers beside the micro and sink cabinet; instead of just two drawers and a cubby hole below the micro originally. All this means that my wife will travel with MORE stuff.

I was very impressed at how Airstream built these 310's with that in mind. To others it seemed like Airstream was chinzy when constructing the furniture, but I now know better. When building my cabinets I have used soft close bottom mount slides as they are high end, which have added weight, but at the same time I have gone out of my way to use the least amount of wood possible while still maintaining strength. I have used baltic birch, pine, maghogany marine ply and Coosa board extensively to keep the weight down. I even have repainted the plastic bathroom sink as it's lighter than anything I could replace it with. I did keep all the original gables and tambour storage bins as they are well built, light and I saw no reason to reinvent the wheel.

My advice to you would be to weigh on a truck scale what you have now with no interior in it. Then start weighing what you're putting into it. You will be surprised at how it can add up fast. As for a bathtub I looked at putting a Premier front door opening bath cubicle but discounted it due to weight.

Remember the general rule. For every 100 lbs you add to the curb weight of any vehicle, requires you add 10 hp to maintain the vehicles performance.
