Why do the British drink warm beer?? They have Lucas refrigerators.

Toyota Echo is a very, very smart little car.

1970 was the best VW bug. after 1970, came a few years of sketchy Superbeatles, but you could still get the "standard" body with a lower trim level (vinyl floor mat, no carpet). A clean bug will hold value, and they are more fun to drive than any Triumph... except for a '66 Bonneville or TT two wheeler.

Citroen 2CV...

Porsche 356...

BMW Isetta...
Had a '61 VW, know where one is now, if it hasn't sold. Would rather find a 62-65 VW (1600CC engine) before they got the ugly bumper, but are very proud of them. Karmann Ghia would be good, but all I've looked at are total rebuilds w/rusted everything or $20000 and more than likely rust under the body putty

I would be scared someone I know would see me in one of those! They don't get that good MPG! But I have seen them on tow bars too. They sell them in Okla City, but if it breaks you take it to Tulsa. No thanks for now.

Saw a MH towing a Smart Car on a 4x8 landscaping trailer last year. Saw on the smart car website that they have a little trailer made just for the Smart car...

Mel, you're right about the Samurai's being converted to mud'rs, and it has ruined them for road use. We found quite a few stock ones in good shape in Arizona. Got a nice one for $3k and it has been trouble free transportation for three years now.

Maybe I need to be looking for a campground job in Arizona this winter. Show up with my cat, my bicycle and no car.
I went for a bike ride today. Stopped by Downtown Okla City Mercedes dealer. Didn't drive one, I had my bicycle shoes on. Base model-$14K. They only come with a 5 speed auto, but, put it in 'N' and tow away. I don't want to have long hair, ear rings, tattoo a peace sign on my neck, become a veggie, never change my socks....plus the $14K isn't in my pocket (or my bank account) today so I rode my bike home.

This was a "proof of concept" undertaking for Honda.

Airstreamers might like the fact that the car is ALL ALUMINUM. I believe it
Found an '01, but they don't offer a base plate, so they must not be towable 4 down

The '83-'84 VW Rabbit GTI is right around the 2000# mark and is a blast to drove on a twisty mountain road. Old Rabbit diesels are often even lighter than the GTI and will easily average 45mpg. The lack the power, but still handle like a street legal go-kart. For the more sporting minded, a Scirocco is the same car with flashy sheet metal, but lacks the interior room and practicality of the Rabbit body. If you don't mind a project, a modern turbo engine in an old rabbit will put performance on par with a Porsche 911 for very little money. Nice examples are getting rare, but can often be bought cheap.
