1995 Classic Diesel

Hello:



i'm looking at a 1995 36' Classic Airstream motorhome equipped with the Cummings Diesel/Allison Trans. The odometer shows 37,000 miles. Does anyone have experience with this year/model and would you know the approx fuel consumation/mileage? Is this year/body style as dependable as the older body style? Any common "issues" with this year/model?

Hi Mc We have full timed in our 94 classic for allmost 4 years.Have driven 25000 miles .1 minor breakdown.Fuelline leak.Ours had 60000 miles on it when we got it .Ark.to Idaho we got 12.5 mpg empty-,but loaded about10 -11mpg, Towing jeep 9-10.This is not to say I have not spent any $ on it.Mostly Pac brake. high output alt. Agm batts. more power ect. But this was by choice. I cannot compare it to any other M/H airstream or sob .This is the first one we have owned.Cummins/allison 6spd.Great !!!! Would I buy a Classic again.YES!!!!!!! If they still made this model would I buy a new one? Maybe, if I could afford it! Regards, Phil and Sam Krassel Helibase, Idaho.

The classic classic circa 1980's and earlier was a somewhat different body style. For the mid-90's they widened it and flattened out the roofline a bit. But it is still the "big silver twinkie" and better than anything else on the market, new or used. The engine/tranny combo is well regarded. Good luck with your new toy.

I didn't want to start another thread around this, because I too have the opportunity to pick up one of these classics. It is a 36 Classic Pusher with the Cummins 12v B5.9 at 230hp. Does anyone know the towing capability on one of these? Also, has anyone had any experience with the Banks Power add-ons to this motor? They are advertising their Power-Pak and Stinger systems for the B5.9 adding 70-95 horsepower and a nice combo of torque. Banks Power | 93-98 Cummins - B5.9L & C8.3L>>Stinger® System

Would love to hear if there are any experiences with these. We will be towing and I'm normally the guy in the left lane with the hammer down to make sunset at the beach ;-)

Hi Fishman,On our 94 classic d/p the towing wt.is 2000 lbs / 200 lbs. tongue wt.However someone has had it upgraded to 5000lbs. I think I read that the 95 was 5000 rated. If not ,easy fix at hitch shop.
We added a pyrometer ,pac brake ,& fuel plate in pump for more power est. 300 h.p.
When towing jeep in summer ,have to keep eye on temps & keep egt below 1200 deg.but only when very hot & long climbs.
Overall have been very happy w/ b5.9 & allison .

I have had a 94 360 classic (Shinny Twinke named the "Silver Palace) for 3 years. Have totally refurbished the coach.
I tow a 2001 Golf Diesel. No real problems except increasing engine temperature. Next week I will have the muffler replaced for better flow and a much better intake filter. Also, more inportant I am going to have the wastgate changed. This should make improvements on all fronts with a minimum cost. After that it gets expensive to change the turbo, add pyrometer etc. Live in Texas. Very good Diesel Performace Company here.

Also, what to watch for is difficulty in shifting with the Allison TCU. The PC boards do fail with age (transistors, capactiors etc.), just had mine rebuilt.
Very expensive new and rebuilt at the Dealers.

My search for a 94 or 95 Classic 36 Diesel lead me to this forum. I joined and hope to participate when I find one. I've been looking at older diesel pushers for about a year now and just missed out on a nice 95 Classic. I don't know much about them yet but really like the looks of the classics. Hope to find one that I can hop in a use but a project would also be acceptable. Good information here!
