So Dave,

What was the final result from this experience? Hopefully it was simple, like replacing the rubber fuel lines, AND that the tow didn't damage the tag.
Good Luck, Derek

Very nice looking rig (if it does need some cosmetic work, one can't tell from the photos)! Best of luck!

Derek,

Don't have an answer yet... The filters were gooped up BUT they need to due the repair to the engine mounts and control arms before they can road test it to rule out small fuel line crack/leak.

They are still trying to find parts. They have of the 6 needed to finish the job.... I have been busy at work so haven't had time to go down and look at what they need to start looking on my own. Hopefully the will locate teh other 2 parts this week! I am losing some really great wx (not to hot nor cold) to work on it!!

Some news

Well I spoke with the repair shop again on Friday and after 3 weeks of trying they say they can not finds the suspension parts they need. They also say they wont test drive it to see if the fuel issue is fixed with out those parts. Funny, it was working just fine before... but, I understand the issues with an old vehicle, liability, etc...... But it is a common chassis. So The parts manager calls back and says he has looked for the prats personally and has a lot of experience with sourcing motor home parts Since he used to be a parts manager for a RV repair shop.... I asked for the list of needed parts so I could look. He said he would email them to me, including the diagrams out of the parts manual with them circled.

I got the email and opened it up to look at the parts and the first thing in the diagram I see circled is the bell cranks! Really, they can't find replacement bell cranks..... Well, they discontinued the OEM stuff, but.... So I immediately call super steer, talk to Gina, send her the list and she calls back in a few minutes and says she has everything but the engine mounts and just needs to know if it is the 11" or 13.75" drag link I was looking for. She thinks it should be the 13.75" but she wanted to double check check...

They took almost a month with nothing and I solved it in 5 minutes with one phone call???

Oh and the engine mounts. They found replacements and when they arrived, they looked totally different then what was on mine.....

So I looked at the part number to see if I could find it on the internet.... and this is what they had 22188393 DISCOI Mount, ENG (7.4N) as soon as I saw it, I figured they ordered the engine mounts for the 7.4L 454, that came standard and not the 5.9 BTA Cummins!

I am heading down there in person tomorrow morning to speak with them and find out what they are going to do about it. I plan to ask the General manager if the parts manager can't find the parts in over 3 weeks, how can someone who doesn't even really know the difference between a diesel and gas engine can do it in 5 minutes and realized it was a diesel engine!!!!.... I am beyond disbelief! I lost a fricken month to incompetence!!

Mayco, I agree there is something to learn. In the future I will get the list upfront and start sourcing myself.

Ive ACCIDENTALLY run across some of those parts (drag link) when looking for other front end parts, namely the steering damper.

Well I went in Monday morning and spoke to the Parts Manager... Which to my surprise was not the person I was talking to prior. He seemed a little dismayed as what had happened. On Friday morning they had a meeting to discuss pending work an he was told the parts we no longer available and they would ask the owner (me) what the next step would be . Source at junkyards, eBay, etc...

When I told him I had found the parts with in 5 minutes after getting the list from Brandon, he seemed incredulous. So I showed him Brandon's email and the email back from super-steer with the availability of everything and the prices and it would all arrive with in 3-5 days (Thanks Gina!). I pointed out the time stamps. He asked if he could have them.... Sure, why not. Kinda got the feeling he was going to have words with someone.

I went out and measured the drag link to make sure I was getting the right length. They make a 11" and a 13.75". The 91 and later models take the 13.75'

The only thing that super-steer didn't have was the engine mounts. I told him about the part Brandon tried to get was for a 7.4L gas engine and I had the 5.9 diesel. Obviously what they got would be different. I asked if he wanted me to find that as well. He politely said no, he was going to take care of it.

On the positive side it has been sitting inside an empty bay the whole time they have had it.

The parts were delivered Wednesday afternoon. I plan on calling tomorrow to see what the deal is.

Hopefully, they will have good progress to report.

Sounds encouraging, progress, movement, somebody over there should get a good talking to for sure. Way to go, finding some positive in the situation.

Engine Mounts

Well, The place can't locate engine mounts. Went in to talk to them and asked if the could retro fit something on their or have them fabbed. Nope I was told. Really? I am getting the idea that you don't really want to do the work.

I spoke to another mechanic I know, He said worse case scenario he can have the inside bushing made if we cant find one...

Here is are some pics of the mounts. Anyone know where Airstream might have gotten them or recognize them from another vehicle?
