So there was a soft spot next to the toilet. The previous owner had redone the floor with peel and stick tiles. When i pulled them up this is what I found. Explains the soft feeling. Lol

Just posting these to keep documenting. Very few people get to see this on a 350 le I would think.

Wow, looks like there was quite a bit of water damage to the floor and walls.
So when are you going to drop that fuel tank for cleaning. Seems like it would be a piece of cake now getting to all the hoses.

Huh, your spare tire is hung underneath? I'd be undoing that, greasing up the cable and mechanism before something breaks free and voila, no more spare tire.
Yes, PO's always have little surprises for us newbies.
Looking good though Scott; you're making good progress.
Cheers

I'm curious about your spare tire and the rear hatch. My 345 has the underframe spare mount but it has the large "Pan America" rear door. What does the rear hatch access? Is that the normal set up on the 350?

I will be having the tank cleaned and plan on putting all new lines on while I have this all open - I will also service the tire carrier - makes sense.

My rear hatch accessed a storage area... if you look back in some of my photos it was the gray carpeted area.... going through pics on viewrvs of the different 350 LE's ive seen them both ways - with a rear tire storage or like mine with just regular storage.

Unpinched the line - took her for a test ride and runs great all through the rpm range - My guess is this - as the filter starts to clog with dirt it becomes enough to restrict the fuel flow for upper rpms - the more clogged it got the worse it got - putting a new filter on fixed it for 5 miles - then it started to clog. Now I have not put a new filter on and this thing is running great. I will however still have the tank cleaned and replace those fuel lines and filter while Im at it - the one that was pinched is very soft now.
Im gonna pull the filter shortly to see how "dirty" it is now - quite happy its "fixed" though.

That's good news Scott, they really are nice to drive when going well.
How is the steering? That's a common area for needs.
Must have been breezy in the back. I hope you are able to get that put back together and have some fun and travels with your rig before getting into too much rebuilding.
Got to keep the balance of fun / work in the comfortable ratio.
Its cool seeing the different layout details that airstream did on the different models . Thanks for posting your pics.
I'd happily give up my continintal kit spare tire location for another storage compartment. And that rear hatch on Dans coach, wow!
So nice having it at home where you can sort things out for yourself.
Cheers Richard

Honestly goes down the road very well. I told my wife when I brought it home from Daytona I was shocked how well it rode and handled (sans the power issue). I did just drop the filter and it’s full of that red sediment again. I left a message with the fuel tank cleaning service. Gonna have them come out and do their thing. Previous owner said the shop that replaced the pump claims to have cleaned it but they also pinched the lines so who knows what the real story is.

Interesting to see the spare underneath. I'd prefer a chain system over that little cable, but it's nice to free up some storage space and lower the center of gravity a tad

Okay. Had the fuel tank pumped and cleaned today. Amazed by the amount of rust/dirt. I would like to put a new sending unit assy in but I cannot seem to find one for the 80 gallon tank. The AC Delco site lookup by vin number shows me one but says exc 80 gallon.
Here are some pics.

Scott,
Here is a universal sending unit that should work. It's what I installed in my tank (although not yet tested) and what I believe one or two others on the forum have used. 0-90 ohms is what the GM gauge requires. You will likely have to custom fit it to your tank.

A local guy. Found him on Craigslist. Here is the setup. Basically it’s a 5 micron and 2 micron filter. Lots of flushing and spraying.

That's how all of the oem sending units are fitted. Unfortunately no one as yet has been able to find an oem unit that will work

How did the inside of the tank look after the cleaning, shiny and smooth?
I used this sender that fits onto the existing pickup pipe asymbly.
Care is needed in getting it set to the correct level for good calibration.
This one is not the 0/90 Ohm needed for the oem gauge, but they do make one at that is.

The last pic showed what it looked like - the fuel is clear now - the tank has some what appear to be surface rust spots inside - not a ton but they are in there - I have to drop the tank to replace the lines properly - I may take it and have it coated - I like to do things once and right.

I am watching your work with interest as will need to do the same one day and, as you say. do it right first time.
Did you locate that fuel strainer which is near the tank? I thought that was inline with the pump to stop crud getting to the filter on the frame rail?
