Tips from BKahler

Ok,

So I keep buying stuff for Airstream, all which means more work on my end. My only problem is that I never seem to finish anything.

Tips from Brad

1) make a list of everything that needs to be done, down to the last screw that has to be removed.

So, I'm out in the Airstream, WOW do I have lots to do. Anyone know if ALL gas plumbing is reverse thread?

All of my kitchen work is to gain access to shower to replace shower pan. Along the way, I'm planning some changes in counter-top (I truly hate Corian) as well as doing repairs in sub-floor that I know will be needed.

Will post my progress.

Thanks, Derek

Derek,
Yepper, all gas threads SHOULD be reverse...it's one of the ways that prevents folks like me from running a water line to the stove...don't forget to use the yellow teflon tape for gas connections.
Seeing the work you're putting in for the shower...WHEW!!! I have made the decision that if I ever have to replace my shower, I'm gonna come park next to you and use yours!

A few items purchased lately. Belt line trim piece for entry door on Airstream. Plus found this NEAT clock since original Hamilton click was MIA at time of purchase.
Found out that insurance settlement from accident with drunk driver is arriving SOON, so 8 new tires and 2 new A/C's are on horizon! Read today in Motorhome magazine about a system Raveson has that allows running both A/C's is available. Maybe that is a purchase as well.
Thanks Derek

Most definitely, 11 and 12 yr old tires are ONLY reason I'm not camping. I'm not about to risk a blowout.

12 year old tires and complete lack of $ for replacements are why the Airstream hasn't been anywhere for over a year.
So, lets get some new shoes and go for a camping trip!

Come on up to MoHos in May! Ours is gutted and will be acting as an aluminum tent!

Honestly Jk,
Since there is a good chance whatever I put on the Airstream will be 'holding' it up for the next 8 years, without any long distance trips planned in the next 8 years, I'm going with Coopers. Got a price of $183.00, plus installation and balancing. I know, I know, they're gonna be Chinese made, but for the purpose, they will be perfect. There are LOTS of areas close by should I chose to make some at the moment camping trips. Heck, I've got Fort DeSoto within 10 miles of my home (one of the top ten beaches in the world) so why now enjoy what's close until I've got this beast all paid off!
As well, since it appears insurance settlement is on it's way this week, I'm looking at new A/C units. Looks like RVPartsCountry.com has the best price for a Dometic unit. No, it's not that new ultra-low profile unit, but for the price, can't beat it, and as long as it cools down the Airstream until retirement. My 24 year old units are in good shape, who knows, I may replace the capacitors, charge them back up with Freon and sell them.....lol

I could be wrong but I don't think you can charge the older units. However your plan for low cost tires and staying local does make sense. Although I would still change them out as required especially since you are going cheaper low end.

Been thinking of having next years MoHos in May in the Pensacola area and do it as part of our yearly vacation. Also get all those big beautiful beast from the great state of Florida there!
