Steve,
No wonder it felt 'off' last time I drove it. I'll get underneath tomorrow and grab some pix for my own use, and start looking online for parts.
Thanks, Derek

can't help wonder.....
Seen where several of the Argosy owners have re-done their interiors. Has any of the Classic Airstream owners gutted their interior and started over.
Just saw this photo on another thread, and can't help think of what the Classic motorhome would look like.
To me, this is SHARP!
Thanks, Derek

A/C units
Ok, here's my situation. I've got new capacitors for both front and rear A/C units. Rear A/C is not longer starting up the compressor, so hoping new capacitor will get that problem repaired.
Front A/C will operate as long as there's not 'too' much direct sunlight bearing down on it. About noon time, the front A/C will kick the circuit breaker. Going to go ahead and replace that capacitor as well.
BOTH outside shrouds are painted a flat black. My plans are to pull both shrouds and paint them either white or a nice aluminum color (if available). My thoughts are that with the nice Florida sun (remember here in Florida, fresh asphalt is white within a year of being new) and the flat black paint, the sun is overheating the outer units.
Am I crazy to think this, or do I just need new A/C units?
Any thoughts, suggestions will be greatly welcomed.
Thanks, Derek

Derek, one of my most favorite tools and troubleshooter is this mini Laser Thermometer. It lets you diagnose and pinpoint heat related issues without having to tear things apart.
And, yes, I would imagine that flat black paint would increase the compressor temp to the point of blowing the circuit, especially if they painted the alu fins in the back too.
Nice rig btw...

Hi PeterH,
Thanks for the compliment. My 'baby' brother arrived in Florida today, interviewing for a possible job here in my area, so while he's here, I've got an extra set of hands to help me with all sorts of things concerning motorhome.
Biggest thing is to get up underneath and check the power steering hoses to see where I'm losing PS fluid from.
Of course, lots of other 'to-do' things. Why in the world would Airstream place the light switches in the bathroom so cattywampus??? Really, top row, pump switch and light switch. Bottom row, light switch and hot water heater switch. Why not have both light switches on same row. Just another thing my 'handy' brother can handle while I'm at work, lol
Thanks, Derek

Is your brother getting to stay in the airstream?
My family stays in ours when they visit. Rather handy that

Andy,
Yes, brother is sleeping in Airstream. Had some issues with A/C units. With outside covers painted black, either one would flip the breaker switch about 10am. Took both of them off today, and painted them a nice aluminum cover. Funny thing, without cover on all day, front A/C NEVER tripped breaker! Guess the black paint was overheating the A/C unit?
Getting practically ALL of my florescent light fixtures switched to LED's this week too! What a difference. I'll post photos soon.
Thanks, Derek

Bathroom light switches
Has anyone ever found replacement light switches for their Airstream motorhome? I'm attaching a photo of what is in mine. One of the previous owners 'attempted' painting the bathroom, and did a better job at getting paint all over the light switches than painting the walls. Would love to find a replacement switch. As well, with me finding an area underneath the upper cabinets, I've found a perfect spot to run lengths of LED lights for a night-lite' and really want to add another switch at entry door.
Sorry about not posting any photos of converted florescent to LED. This is taking lots longer than I thought. Plus, now I'm playing waiting game, since I've used up all the LED's at this point, lol.
Have converted both florescents in bedroom (foot and top of mattress) to LED as well as the long one in bathroom. PLENTY of light now, and barely registers any power consumption too.
Thanks, Derek

Arkansas Rally
Love to get to the Rally in Arkansas, but motorhome, car and house payments, as well as trying to get the AS road-ready, it looks as if a road-trip may be later, rather than sooner. But, if my Lotto tickets win this weekend, expect to see me sooner!
Had the AS out today, had replaced the negative battery cable this week. My brother was riding with me, and we noticed no charge whatsoever on the voltmeter. Pulled battery tray, and by doing so, killed the engine. Tried the Aux switch in glove-box, still wouldn't start.
Believe it or not, I have extra engine battery, switched engine battery out, and damn thing fired right up.
About to head out and find my faulty circuit on chassis fuse panel. Gotta be something simple, well maybe something simple....
Thanks, Derek

Chevy brake parts numbers/Chevy V-Belt numbers
FINALLY found the work order from local Chevy Truck dealer that did all of the work for Previous Owner.
Here's what I have for Chevy parts numbers
Master Cylinder 39309
Hydro-Boost 52-9383
P/S Hose 7-6044
Brake Pads UP-7081A-SD
Rear Seal 31870
Front Seal 21771
While previous owner had his in for service, he also had all V-Belts replaced. This is for a 1989 454cid Chevy engine
Serpentine Belt 25-060560
Belt 25-7450
V-Belt 25-7410
V-Belt 25-7590
This work was done about 2 1/2 years ago, and with parts and labor, total bill was almost $2500! OUCH!

LED replacment
Ok,
So 'baby' brother has been here for almost 2 weeks now. He's been hard at work removing florescent fixtures from lighting bases all over the Airstream. In fact, I'm completely out of LED's at the moment, and waiting on more to come from eBay. Even with the extra light from LED's, it sure doesn't hurt to have more, in my opinion.
I did order the warm-white 300 LED rolls, instead of the bright white. Using bright white in bathroom florescent fixture, as well as the head and foot of bedroom florescents.
In my '89, I have 6 overhead florescents. 1st two fixtures are on a switch at entry door. Using bright white LED there, warm white everywhere else.
Attaching some pix. Have 6 rolls total on the way, may go so far as to wire another switch at entry door, and add more lights under overhead cabinets. We'll see.
Thanks, Derek

Ok,
Too late from brother to help me with the rest of the conversion from florescent to LED, but I think I can follow his instructions. HUGE difference inside of the Airstream. Just 4 more to go.....

Ok, out in the moho last few evenings. Thinking there's a possibility of camping over Labor Day weekend. Turned on the fridge a couple of nights ago, now I have hardly any coach battery! I've got the fridge that 'automatically' selects from 120V or gas. Could the circuit board be fried? Or am I looking at something more?
Thanks, Derek

What brand of fridge?
The panel should tell you what its running on, ac or gas. Are you plugged into power? Can you not select what you want it to rum on?
If you are on 12V with gas, it should run longer than a couple days before draining the battery=ies?
