As I am sure your Dad will tell you, the ac covers are plastic so will need good cleaning and an adhesion promoter primer. I like Bulldog.

The panel with the capacitors attached is in the left rear of the a/c unit once you get the cover off. Careful with the nuts holding the covers on, mine were rusted and I probably could have finessed them all off, but got in a hurry and broke a couple of studs.

Just got some great advice from Lewster concerning replacing the capacitor.

"There is a large jolt contained in a fully charged capacitor......and they really bite when they hit you!!

I assume you have a volt meter. After removing the shroud, locating the capacitors AND TURNING OFF THE CIRCUIT BREAKERS FOR THE ROOF AIRS, put your meter to 'AC VOLTS' in the 100+ volt range. Then use the probes to touch each pair of post of the capacitors until they are drained (the meter load will drain the voltage from the caps). Hit all of the posts (two at a time) until they are all nominal."

So, if any of you are about to do this, I'd say follow these simple steps. I know I sure am, after working construction, and WAY too many encounters with 110V live wiring, I'm all about avoiding any 'jolts'

Now I've gotta see if Keyair won't post pix of how he managed to get up on roof of his Classic......

I have one of those folding ladders I keep at the AS.

Unfurled it into straight mode and put it against the curbside awning cover.
From there I just climbed up and picked my foot placement carefully.
If you do it in sunlight, be careful as the darned roof was hot!

I am making a couple of planks that I will cover with old carpet to protect the roof for next time, when I get up to fix stuff. I think its safer for me and the roof!

Rivets?

Concerning Rivets on Classic motorhomes. For some reason, the rivet on the lower rear curbside awning bracket has decided to give up the ghost. Understand that there are several rivets used in Airstreams. Anyone have an idea what I need, and if I HAVE to go to Airstream to purchase?
Thanks, Derek

Whilst you need to determine the head size and depth you need, there is some good reading info here...

Hi Dean,
Got all sorts of attachments and just realized that I did just win the Melamine mixing bowl on eBay this week. Will post pix of attachments when the sun rises.
Thanks, Derek

NuTone

Dadstoy (Dean)
This is all of the attachments that Elbundi sold me with the countertop unit for the NuTone. I did just purchase today, the Melamine bowl for the mixer, so will actually be able to use mixer attachment. Neat to have the blender, and the knife sharpener as well. TONS of other attachments, but I've got to save my $'s for other more pressing stuff, lol
Thanks, Derek

While sleeping out in Airstream last night, I was woken by the sound of dripping water (we've got a tropical Depression here in Florida this weekend). After trying and trying to go back to sleep (it was 4am, and the rain sounds really nice on aluminum) I finally turned on the light to see what was going on.
Curbside rearmost bedroom window area has a leak. It was dripping down on 'headboard' of bed.
Decided I would never get back to sleep, so came inside. Thought about the leak for awhile, and went back out and pulled the window awning. Just checked (STILL RAINING) and the area is dry. Guess I'm gonna need to get my Vulkem out and seal along that joint between side window and panaramic rear window area.
Ahh, gotta love our Airstreams!
Thanks, Derek

I have same attachments except for bowl. Was going to give them to you if you didn't have them.

Windshield Wiper Switch

Of course,
With ALL the rain that 'Debbie' has thoughtfully provided this weekend, I decide to see if my windshield wiper switch works
The outer knob does have intermittent, low speed and high speed.
Anyone know what back ring is for? Mine just 'spins' doing nothing. Thinking it could possibly be for the intemittent???
Thanks, Derek

Derek,
Your wiper switch does not look like an OEM. Had to replace mine because the circut board in the controller fried. The outter ring is the off, low and high speed. The button when pressed is for the washer and the intermitant. I had to replace the whole 9 yards due to the fry. The control box keeps the motors in sinc and controls intermitent speed. If your wipers do not run in sinc, my guess is the controller is on its way out. I still have the orig switch with the 5 wire harness to the controller box. If you want to try it, Ill send it to you. Call me and I will explain how I rewired the wiper motors with a new type switch ($18 including freight). Pain in the rear to install but
beats no wipers!

Hey Derek

May I take this opportunity to remind you that your 6 month money-back warrantee on your NuTone purchase expired 5 days ago

Hope Debby showed you where you need to apply the Vulkem. We've only had the wind off of this weather system here in SW GA! Great for driving west though!

Debby and 6 month return.....

Steve, yes Debby was the 'ultimate' leak test, and I found several. Gotta get the Vulkem out along upper windshield gasket. Worst part, my other leak was in rear storage, under rear bed, where my Vulkem was stored! Got the tubes slowly drying out, hoping maybe duct tape on the tube will keep the cardboard tubes from exploding when I go to use them.

Andy, didn't know about the money back guarantee, I'm loving it anyhow!

Thanks, Derek

Power Steering Hoses part numbers

Anyone have any idea what the part numbers would be for an '89 345 motorhome? Got mine out this weekend and noticed a huge spot underneath. After driving it around, and got it parked again, checked all of my fluids and discovered that power steering reservoir was almost empty (I had filled it 2 weeks ago)
Got underneath and found fluid drips on the hoses. Guessing either I've got hoses to replace, or power steering pump.
Anyone with those part numbers? I'd greatly appreciate them.
Thanks, Derek

Sucks Derek, but super important to get fixed... loosing Steering and Brakes on you Airstream could ruin your day... and someone else's too!
