1988 airstream 345 ENTRANCE DOOR LOCK

I have a broken latch on the main entrance door.

I had the latch welded once, but it failed again.

Any information on a replacement that does not butcher up the door would sure be appreciated.

Howard,
Are you talking about the deadbolt lock or the pull-handle lock? mike

Lock failure

We just had both locks break on our 1988 345 on a trip last week. Unfortunately, we were inside when the deadbolt decided to give out. Had to rip the panel off by the door to get the lock out. We have not found replacements for either lock. Any ideas for repair or replacement would be appreciated. Thanks, Moe

Somebody had a door lock listed on eBay the other week for a mere $400! I almost bought it just to have a spare LOL. I'm not 100% it was the correct lock but it looked like my 88's, I didn't spend a lot of time looking at it because of the high price and I didn't need one anyhow, actually the high price was the only reason I did look, I wanted to see if it was made of uranium or something... If that was anywhere near a fair price I hope mine lasts forever and I feel for you!

I just searched for it again, it's down to $250 (either that or I imagined it was $400 to start with???) eBay item number 130493128156 or enter key words Airstream Lock to find it like I did... I notice right off the bat it has three screws where mine has four, still might work.

I am thinking that it is for a trailer door, hinged on the opposite side, at first I thought it was just photographed outside down but I think it is backwards. Or maybe it's just upside down??? Better ask before bidding and research it at that price. Of course if you need it bad enough the price might be worth it if you can make it work for you? Only you know the answer to that...

This is also listed on the forum classifieds for $400 OBO. I hope I didn't offend anyone here. It wasn't my intention...

I've finally made up my mind it is upside down but for a door hinged on the same side as a motorhome door. (heck I don't know) Still three screws not four.

Thanks for all the posts

I would think the latch shown is for a trailer.

On the motor homes the latch lever opens from front to back and the key lock is on the bottom.

I suppose I just have to keep searching

If it's this latch, you are flat out of luck finding a new one. Not many mo/hos in junkyards that I know about (thank goodness). The best (and only) advise I've ever gotten is to have a qualified AS outlet install a new version, which is larger, and requires some "modification". Best of luck, (I'm in the same boat, by the way, mine is hanging by a thread held together with JB Weld).
