Karen,

I believe all of the Classic Airstream motorhomes only require 120 volt 30 amp service. That's what our 84 310 is.

If you can only run one air conditioner at a time then that pretty much says 30 amp.

Unless you're going to be towing a large trailer the 10,000 lb hitch will be way overkill. I'm assuming you're going to flat tow and if so you could probably get by with something like a 5,000 lb rating.

Although since it requires custom fabrication you might as well get the best

I have no idea what my hitch is now rated for but I know it handles a 4,000 trailer without problems.

It is a three prong cord, but the original bill of sale says 50amp.

The hitch portion is only $200 for the 10,000#, it's $1550 for the tow system which can pull up to 8,000#. Will dingy tow.

Interesting. I wonder if someone upgraded your system, or just used what was available to allow them to use 50 amp outlets.

I'm thinking your best bet is to have the electrician look your system over to see what would work best.

Are there dingy systems that are less? I thought that was a good price as Campingworld wanted $6000.

Even with a 50 amp plug/servive, you will only be able to operate what the selector switch is set at.
But you could modify to separate a few items, as the rear air, or the microwave.

If you have someone 'look' at the brakes, INSIST that they remove the tires for a visual...we have had three places approve our brakes when they were worn...shame on us twice...we were charged a minimum of 1 hour for labor that wasn't done, and at least $1200 for repairs...found a guy in Tucson that was reliable, relatively inexpensive, and THERE...will be happy to PM you his info, if you want...mike

Going to look at a 1984 310. Never had an
rv before. We like the looks of the vintage airstreams.
Any advice on what to look for would be appreciated. Sorry for the short notice but decided to start looking. Seems like we wait to long to decide than their gone

Take it for a drive, if you like the way it runs and handles, the rest is normal repairs on most any MH.
Water leaks?
AC working good?
Fridge works on gas and power ?
Generator?
Awnings?
Hitch?

Your probably going to upgrade many electrical items anyway, as the TVs and microwave

If it helps any, just replaced all 4 of mine on our 89. Zipdee canvas and install on existing hardware ran $2,200. Be sure to have the dealer get you an up to date sample before they construct the new awnings.

Will do. Did you have the awning done at a chain store? We have a Campingworld here that can probably do it. The awning is 21' long.

Brakes squeaking is not a good thing...I guess that noise is better than fire, but so is stopping without noise...MAKE THEM TAKE THE TIRES OFF...our 'jangly' noise was diagnosed as a loose u-joint, till the guy in Tucson found the tag-axle brake rolling around in the wheel well...1200 miles later...MAKE THEM TAKE THE TIRES OFF...

OK, OK, I had them replace all 8 tires, so they all came off.
