I agree with Peter, a 5.5 is on the small side for running two air conditioners plus the fridge and converter. I wouldn't go with less than a 6.5.

Love the look of your motorhome! We are just down the road in Manhattan if you ever come our way for camping.

We also stop near KC when we head out east for our first overnight after work. It's only two hours out, but I prefer getting to the east side of KC so I can get an early start without regard for KC rush-hour timing.

So an update for any interested parties! The new generator was installed. It barely fit in the hole. After it was installed it would run for thirty minutes and die. And not restart when cranked. The fuel pump was replaced, and it still didn't work. There was a guy at the shop that used to work on the old onan generators. He looked at it and knew exactly the problem. The old generator had the fuel line around the front inside the compartment. When the new one was installed they just hooked onto the fuel line inside the compartment and that caused the fuel line to get too hot and vapor lock the system. He routed the fuel line around the back outside the compartment and it now runs trouble free with enough power to spare!!
Now for the wiring! This is what our coach plugged in looks like now.
First off all of the interior electronics work exactly as they always have. The difference is they asses an auto switch that the generator and the new shore cord are hooked to. I use the existing cord and the new cord together and plug into 50 amp and both a/c's work plugged in! We are happy to finally be cool here in Phoenix...
The final problem for this trip (hopefully) is the solar charge controller mounted in the wall appears to have stopped functioning.
The backside is in with the back of the refrigerator and my guess is it fried. The fridge stopped cooling when it was super hot but appears to be making a decent recovery since we emptied all the hot food out. Will any old solar controller do or should I look for a specific one to replace this one?

How many solar panels do you have? Total watts? Connected in series or parallel?

There are two panels but I really have no idea how they are hooked up. I think I remember seeing the original sales slip for the installation in the very large binder. I'll see if I can find it.

The handwriting is atrocious on this receipt but I think there are two panels that are 15amp. I'll just post a pic and see what you can make of it. Haha!
We are at the Grand Canyon! The beast ran beautifully up here! I haven't had a chance to see what is wrong with the speedometer yet so I have been using Waze for directions and speed. The new generator is performing beautifully. Hasn't missed a beat so Far!

We figured out the solar issue. Broken wire needs soldered. Today's adventure was finding this when we stopped for lunch.

Bless you, Kreimer! You are a very lucky man to say the least. You can probably save the water heater with a new board, some rewiring and fixing the mess passed the valve, but man, you were so lucky...

I am counting my lucky stars definitely... Not sure what I am gonna do yet. Either on demand or the same general setup. Maybe even a gas/electric/engine coolant. Don't know.

WOW!!!! That was a close one for sure.
At the Pennsylvania get together, Bob Miller was talking about the fire suppression system that he installed in his 325, and I think I recall him saying that something like 70 percent of all motorhome fires start behind the fridge. Just saying....
Keep driving, the gremlins are right on your tail!

My toddler just pointed at the picture and said "Wow! That was a close one!" It's his favorite new phrase, and not too sure he knows what it means, but in this case it was hilariously appropriate.

Haha!
We have arrived home! Another 3,340 miles or so on the ticker! (If the ticker we're currently working...) so, things that broke on this trip...
-speedometer
-cruise control
-generator
-water heater
-heat control cable for dash blower
-laminate flooring buckled (haven't figured if it was heat or what yet.
-dog chewed hole in new sofa upholstery
But the old 454 ran like a top! Exhaust leaks and all!
The new shore cord setup works fantastic as well.
Three week trip. I am glad to be home. Need to see if I can get the dash air working... I am tired of being hot...

Hey Nick,
I'm guessing that this is the guy that knows "a close one" when he sees it! A next generation Airstreamer for certain.
Snapped this pic at final boarding for departure from Penn Wood. Thought you'd get a kick out of it.

Ahh....got to love the dog anyway, plus you really wanted to change the couch fabric....didn't you ??? Make the investment and fix the dash AC with R-12, you won't be disappointed and it will work the way it should...enough said, Regards, Bob

Yeah total bummer Kreimer!
But, Didn't your coach come with broken windows. Or am I confusing it with another?
If so, did you inherit a coach stalker with the motorhome?
I may watch too many crime shows, but don't they have some security videos etc to find out who did this.
The interior looks like you have lots of projects going on. Or is that mess the intruder made. I often look around during projects and the place looks ransacked.
Hard to understand this happening in a secure storage place, especially a cave.
Hope you can recover And move on with the enjoyment part of your coach.
Cheers Richard

I had a small mess as I am replacing the water heater but it appears they opened and rifled through every cabinet, tried to force a screwdriver through the television, Stole the DVD player, stepped on the lower open cabinet doors and discharged the fire extinguisher. I am hoping that is it. Should just need the extinguisher powder cleaned up and stuff put away again. I hope. Haha. I don't know if the lock didn't catch or what. No damage to the lock though. I need to get the door handle lock working apparently... I did have a couple windows broken when we bought it but the windscreens were in great condition. Looks like I get to drop another grand. Yeah! Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...
