1987 345 generator pricing?

The mechanic says it is not working again. They are trying to figure out what is wrong. What kind of costs for a new generator-installed for this. Are there refurbished ones available? Again, what price can I expect? Also, would a portable generator work? If so, what size and cost. Could I get by without a generator? Down to my last dime.

More information on what is happening with your old generator and also like Mike asked, what brand/model do you have?

I believe it is the original generator-Onan 6.5 watt generator with hour meter-is what the 1987 paperwork says.

It worked when I first bought it in June. Then it didn't work when I picked it up from the first mechanic. 4th mechanic said it needed a new starter. He put it in and it has been working there. They took it for a final test run before cleaning it up completely and the generator would not start.

We have run most everything on our 345 with a Honda E2000(won't run the ac, but everything else does ok)...luckily, we had our 6.5 Onan done in ABQ by a dealer that knew what to do...pricey, at about $450, but they rebuilt the carb and cleaned it up...so far(knock on wood), it has provided us with flawless power for the last two years. m

Same gen set I have. Does it turn over slowly? I assume the gen set is in the rear. Where is the starting battery?

The chassis battery is in the front, curbside drawer, with the two coach batteries...I think the 310 has the batteries in a compartment under the floor just inside the door. The gen set in the 345 is on the streetside, just behind the propane tank...don't know where it is in the 310...m

Correct. I just replaced all 3 batteries in July since I didn't know how old they were. So I know it isn't the batteries. Since they replaced the starter in August on the generator I know it isn't that.

Have someone who knows what they're doing check the cable running from the starter battery to the gen set. I had the same problem, replacing the cable (not cheap) solved everything.

This is what they found out today=

The generator runs, but idles funny. They found it was sucking air into the intake manifold. Seal up leak and will put back together.

Repair the Onan if you can.
I replaced mine with a Honda 6000w...about $1300 maybe more.
Was in a rush as I needed for road trip.

The Honda has a higher RPM that I'm not too excited about.

I am glad they are fixing this and not charging me for it. It looks like I will have it by Monday, I hope.
