Sorry. Another question. Y'all recommend anything as far as transmission ? Overdrive? I know there has been many talks about it. Didn't have time to go back and research. Thanks again!

Choctawmel has fitted a 4L80-E, but had some issues... maybe he has on opinion based on experience...
Here is his thread...
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f159...one-75774.html

The 4L85-E is the HD version of it, and rated up to 16,500lb.
GM 4L80-E transmission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Its 4 speed electronicly controlled transmission, so that brings its own issues... There are many stand alone controllers you can get.

The ultimate Trans would be the Allison 1000, that is a Electronicly controlled 5 or 6 speed...

Start a thread over in the Engine and transmission section, and get some feedback?
My gut feeling would be to get your transmission diagnosed by a trustworthy shop, It might be the Modulator or something simple...
If not, have it rebuilt with a Allison TC, and later, add a OD unit on the back...
My 0.02!

He is very trust worthy. That was the reason I spent $950 to tow it there. He already said it sounds like a modulator. Thanks for input. I will go through the threads. Thank you! Thank you!!

Yeah! I have good Sam platinum. I had to pay $950 to tow it still. I was 245 miles from home. I have to say it was crap the way it was handled. I called they said they would tow to closest place to fix. I understand. Then they found a place.... The one I had tow for me. Then GS said they now have to find someone to tow... They couldn't find anyone because of Sunday. The one that ended up towing was not on their plan for towing but was for repair. . I would have had to wait till Monday for them to tow it 6 miles. In that case I decided to have it towed on my own, to my local place. I can keep an eye on it and I know he's honest. So I had it towed. However the guy from GS called me back and told me to submit a letter for reimbursement. Told me to put in letter that he technically couldn't find a towing service and he would back me up. So.... Needles to say I will submit the letter and I will sign up another year with GS. It is up at the end of the month. :-) AAA towed my friends 280 I was with ,up to 100 miles no questions asked. I will stick with GS for the reason of that nice guy to take the time to call me back. That to me is good service.

Can you tell us 'which' plastic gear? Love to know, as if it's something prone to failure, I'd like to go ahead and have mine replaced.
Thanks, Derek

I am guessing it is the Gear on the Governor...
I looked it up and its plastic.
The Governor and its driven gear is at the rear of the transmission, and connected to the output shaft.
It tells the rest of the transmission what the road speed is, and controls the shift points.
This would explain why you lost the shifting!

How do I know this?
Cos we just went thru this on my son's Mercedes!

That's the one!! Here is pick. The one in pick is one he gave me for a spare. And also gave me spare plastic pice. He also told me it may go out again in a year 4 years or whenever. They are prone to going bad due to them sitting and another part inside tends to rust. There is no way to clean the rust off the other part. He showed me how to change it out on the road side so I don't have to tow. :-) Its the tan pice in the picture. Now for the dull spots on the aluminum. :-)
