Healey 3000 very dependable...nothing a sharp rap to the fuel pump with a copper hammer couldn't cure. Heat in the summer, cold air in the winter, paper towels for a defroster, but the best damn crumpet catcher, short of an E Jag, ever made. "carburettor is a French word which means 'leave it alone"

Got my winter gas today while it's still cheap (relatively). Not sure about the Peoples Republic of California, but the premium gas we get here at Pure stations is still ethanol free. I always put it in everything for winter storage, even 2 strokes, just to be on the safe side. I was still 70 here yesterday, but freezing will be here soon.

Something Derek probably doesn't have to worry about in the Tampa area.

Sorry, www.pure-gas.org does list some stations in far Northern California (very near Oregon).

Hate putting it away for the winter.

Freeze in the Tampa Bay area, yup it happens, not that often though. Last winter, about a total of a week or more of 'freeze' nights. Usually back in the 50's or 60's after a freeze though. Still, ethanol in gas is just a bad idea, I've got a TON of SeaFoam in the Airstream, gas is 'kinda' cheap' here now, so why now have a full tank to go camping in next weekend?

Derek,

Whata difference a few degrees of latitude makes. We regularly get into the 20's during January, 50's during the day, and I have seen it down to 17...reminded of Great Lakes...scary.

We'll slip out to the Gulf Islands National Park if we get a warm weekend, but no trips until March. Have a good weekend.

Woke at 1.30 am this morning...

Cant sleep, so scouring Ebay for LED's and the like...

Crazy week for nothing to do with the Airstream or Christmas...
Some new LED's arrived as well some parts for a experiment... more later on that.
Also arriving in the mail was a Vintage NIB Zemco Electronic Compass... Love it!

Did get over to the Airstream yesterday, and was pleased to be stopped by a couple in a late model Class C M/H, who grinned, tooted their horn and stopped to tell me how Awesome my Airstream was looking!

We are quite a bit south of you and for a change we will be heading to the panhandle for the gathering at Topsail state park. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we haven't made a mistake, but so far this month it is fall like weather, dry with much less humidity. This will be a good test of the MH heat capabilities, with furnace, two heat strips in a/c's, a ceramic heater and firewood in the bed of the pu for campfires.

I know we will be warmer than our trip a few years ago to Maine in September, VW westfalia without heat gave us incentive to move up.

My plan is Canopener and then a slow trip back, but if weather is too cold to enjoy it will be a faster trip home. Haven't had my fishing line in the water for a year, lots of places to check out along the gulf coast, or local fish markets.

Yeah, that 'cold' weather in Florida...down to 17?!!! Silverton is heating up when that's the daytime high...could be why we(and about 6 million other folks) are south this time of year...

I think only the labels grow on trees...you have to plant the cans, but not too deep. We grow peanuts and cotton up here, and of course alligators.

Many trips to one of AT&T's outsourcers in Grand Junction still give me nightmares of May snow storms driving I70.

Not much progress the last few weeks..
Had my Parents in town from Thanksgiving thru tomorrow...

I have a bunch of LEDs to test and post the results..
The paint on the tail lamp cans is hard... need to get them back in..
The seam sealant is finally hardened up enough to scape off the excess..
Time to get the bedroom floor finished..

Watch this space...

Hi Steve,
Knew something was going on in your life when you're not on here. Hope you enjoyed having your parents all of this time. Mine were in town a couple of weeks ago, took them out for a ride in the Airstream, they had a blast! Guess I'll have to take them camping in it next time.
Will be looking for your posts.

Yup, they are not getting any younger, so spent more time with them than I ever had for years...
My mom liked the Airstream lots and could see what I have in mind.. and as she is a Seamstress, she will be getting some measurements for some upholstry covers and the like. My Dad, was not so impressed, althogh did not say as much out loud.. I know him well enough to know he cant see past the "Sow's Ear" stage!

They flew back last night to England.

I really want to have it all working good by next time they come, which is planned for 2013. So I have time, but lots of work ahead of me!

More LED's arrived, so off to test and record the results...

Busy day...
First job was to bring my "Old Faithful" '87 Suburban home from storage...
I will be pulling the transmission out sometime soon.
I put what I was told was a good used TH400 in it when I refreshed the motor in 2008.
The original TH400 was fine, but had lost engine braking in L2.
I thought the used one would be better, and it was working ok, but same issue as the original... no L2 engine braking.
Its a common issue with the TH400, if they are used for towing.. the front band wears out.
Suddenly last year, when moving house, I lost Reverse or it was erratic, and it then started making a wierd whining noise, so i mothballed it until I was ready.
I have the original trans, and a rebuild kit on my bench..
Never done a trans before, so should be interesting!

Airstream got some attention too...

The Costco GC2 6V's i bought yesterday, are charged, and resting ready for the install.
With the Suburban home, I went back and decided to pull the rusty, holey battery tray out of the Airstream, and prep it, get some measurements for the floor drop.

What a mismash mess of wires and cables behind the tray!

I took a bunch of pics, but it looks like my dad accidently took my Camera cable back to England with him!

Steve, I'll shoot a couple of pix of wiring behind my battery tray and post them here and you can tell us all if yours looks anything like my ratsnet of wiring!
Great day at RV Supershow here in Tampa, wow, the Airstream trailers on display were SWEET! I'd sure love to see Airstream get back into making the Classic motorhome, the widebody trailers sure are nice.....
