LOL, My life show is kinda scary...

Its more of a mix of: Stanford and Son's, Dirty Jobs, American Chopper, Junkyard Wars, Myth Buster's and MacGuyver...

Exhausted...
Barely slept all night... had food poisoning or something... hot and cold sweats, and stomach cramps until 3am, then got rid of it all...
Finally got to sleep around 5am..
Slept fitfully until 7am, got up, walked the dogs about 2 miles.

Prepped my little 190D for a blast to Hesperia... about 100 miles away, to pick up the Jeep Cherokee transmission.

Called Inland RV so I could grab my Window seals on the way..

Collected my Tools and list for a stop at the Pick&Pull in Ontario.

Stopped off at the Storage to pay my bill and drop off some stuff I had finished at the AS.

Got a frantic call from the Step-Daughter...
My Black Jeep that she is driving until the Cherokee is fixed, has Acrid Black Smoke pouring from under the hood...
She did as instructed(rare), quickly exited the freeway, parked and got out.
The smoke stopped.
She got a ride to work...

My Pick&Pull stop is cancelled.

Drive to Corona, stop in and get my parts, and have a great chat with Andy, before blasting to Hesperia...
Blasting?
Well, my 190D HAD... 75 hp, and AC when it left the factory..
I think some of the ponies escaped as well as the AC...
Riverside County was a Balmy 90deg today, and the traffic and long hill on the 15 was a drain...
Arrived at the Salvage yard, and loaded the Transmission... and set off for LA..
Friday Traffic...
Arrived at the Black Jeep... diagnosed a seized Electric fan.
Snipped off fan wires, lifted the 200lb transmission out of the mercedes and into the Jeep solo....
Gave the Step Daughter the Diesel to drive and nursed the Jeep home with a combo of heater on full and gentle cruising.
A transmission, damsel in distress, Airstream Parts, and nearly 300 miles...
A large Vodka Tonic was waiting when I walked in the door...
Now I am off to bed.... Goodnight all..

wow, and here I was wondering what you did all day yesterday! lol.
Get your much needed rest! Look forward to seeing you back on the Airstream, but sounds as if you have plenty to keep you busy for awhile. Thanks, Derek

Just when I thought I was done with the polishing on my coach, your recent display of polished drawer fronts inspired me to strip the black paint that covered my drawers, and everything below the rub rail. What an improvement. The total shape of the body is much more apparent now that everything is shiny. The whole coach appears to sit a bit lower as well.
I am a bit bugged by the look of the vertical line of separation where the aluminum rocker panels meet the rear banana wrap. I'm thinking of adding a bit of aluminum sheet to carry the shiny look up, over, and around the rear bumper trim. I'll post some pics of my silver duct tape mock-ups so you can see what I mean.

Out of doors mart has the belt line. I just bought to redo mine. Unless I bought the last of it. They also have other colors if you want.

When you say the "belt line", do you mean the really thin strip up high, or the wider stuff down low which I think is called "rub rail"?? Thanks.

As I posted, I have been kinda sick.... but trying to push thru it..

Stripped and treated the rust on the Streetside Drawer, and its in primer now..

Also found the energy to pull the pan off the used transmission for the Jeep...
The paperwork says it had 63k miles when the doner was in a rollover, and the inside story says its good... we will see, and it has a 90 day warrantee.
Looks good!

Also, on a sidenote, I think I had a little score...
Found and bought a pair of NIB (New in Box)... Velvac 2025 heated and powered mirrors...
So cheap, I am still pinching myself..
Not got them yet, so fingers crossed, as they are in transit.
They look so similar to the Ramco Units people have fitted, so I hope they will work!
They have heated upper and lower mirrors, altho the lower wide angle is manual.
I will need to find the Switch, heater switch, and maybe the extension harnesses when I get around to fitting them.

Steve, gotta know where the mirrors you found came from, if you don't mind sharing. Ebay? Craigslist? Less than $200? Less than $150? Heck, less than $100??? My Ramco are power and heated. I'll get a photo of the dash switch and post for you tomorrow. Will say this, went to clean the mirrors on mine, and the lower wide angle on the passenger side, decided that the glue holding it wasn't good enough, and took a swan dive to the ground. Thank goodness, Airstream is parked on grass, or I'd be looking for 2 replacement wide angle lenses!

Great find...Cali Craigslist lists are much better than mine. I have to trek to Atlanta or down Derek's way to find anything. I've tried selling my body lately, but age has made it an as is, where is, transaction.

Excuse me if I didnt tell you guys...

Chatted back and forth, got pics, did the deal via Paypal, and have a tracking number... Fingers crossed.

The mirrors on mine are junk, so it was on my wish list.
My base measurements tell me it should be fine, but I will have to enlarge or change the holes slightly and add a plate behind to take the bolts.
These do not have a Blinker on the arm, altho its an option on that mirror series.
There is a removable plate where the Blinker goes... I am thinking I can find a LED Marker that will do the job.

I Emailed Velvac about the switch and wire harness extentions I will need, and this is the prompt reply I got...

Part 747198 is the switch kit that consists of the mirror control switch, heater switch and cover plate. The price is $114.13, The wire harness are not included. To commonly used harness are part 747328 an 11' wire harness, price $31.40 and part 747329 a 5.5' harness price $23.63. She's looking great. What a transformation!! That mirror finish really justifies the sweat that goes into the job.
On the bright side, that guy's moho and ladder might come in handy when you get around to polishing your roof.

It's looking better all the time. It just hit me that being a Brit, a nation of tinkers, the AS is a natural for you. My first car, a 57 Healey 100-6, made me one too. i was stationed along side the British Army in Cyprus...we're all the same. Keep it up the good work.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking about, and it won't be too hard to do. Just hem the bottom edge where it meets the banana wrap, and conceal the upper edge beneath the molding. To take it a step further, and perhaps too far, that flat upward facing plastic surface from the bumper to the body could be finished with a piece of diamond plate. Of course it gets to the point that the "purity" of the Classic's shape gets lost as you start to form squared aluminum edges and attach them to the curves. When I mocked it up, I think it was at its best just as you show it. The squared off front and rear bumpers with inset rectangular marker lights compliment one another.

So you don't think that my madness has limits, I'm also thinking about some sort of black plastic/rubber ground effects dropped down from the rockers, extending from the front wheels to the rear wheels, and perhaps even skirts for the rear wheels as well. This would accompany a lowered front spoiler as I've heard you describe, and perhaps even a full belly pan (like the old trailers) that would seal up the bottom and fuel tank, and taper up to meet the rear bumper. For the roof top I've got some even crazier thoughts that refer back to 30's/40's streamlined bus/train designs. I'd love to see how much the fuel mileage could be improved through better aerodynamics.

Have you been using the soda blaster? I'm waiting for Harbor Freight to put it on sale and I wondered how well it worked. They also have another blaster that you can use glass beads in.
