Been there, feel that Steve, our hearts go out to you. Put down my 12yo pup for a brain tumor a few years ago, it's still heartbreaking, there is something about a dog that just can't be put into words.

It is a heartbreaker when this happens. We had two rescues that kept wild pigs and strangers out of our yard, when they got old and died a couple of years ago I told myself that was it. Time passed, and here we are with new pups....Click image for larger version

Thanks for the kind and caring words.
Only Doggy people understand...

Its been a crappy start to the year really...
A close friend got diagnosed with a tumor on his frontal lobe... its operable, and is isolated, so that is one bit of good news, although they will be doing the Op with him awake... doesn't sound like fun to me!

Then, my Girl's 92 yo Father took a tumble and injured his knee, so I have been on call running him back and forth to Hospital, and on call, to literally pick, him up and pop him in the car, for appointments.
I have been unable to push on with the Motorhome, as I need to be close to home.
Have been crashing on with stuff in the shop tho... tooling is coming along!
Prob should post some updates, to prove im busy, and so its not all doom and gloom!

So....
Picked up another Cummins motor.
I think this one will be the one that is going in the Airstream...
Needs work, but it’s a “Mexican Block” that is thicker/stronger than the road going blocks apparently. This one came from an industrial Genset, and has just one mildly scored bore, and the rest are perfect. It’s also a P pump motor, altho I didn’t take the injection pump, as they are different to road going pumps. I got the whole motor including a good head for less than the cost of a new head. I also have a bunch of stuff I don’t need that I can recoup the $500 it cost, making it free...
Picked it up in my VW Jetta Wagon...Yup, that’s 1100lb or so in there, so sitting a bit low.
Still did 40mpg on the way home.

5 bores look like this:

And #6 looks like this.
Very common for #6 to go bad, as it has the worst coolant flow.

Cummins state you can just bore one cylinder and run one oversize piston without any issues... might have it sleeved tho...

So, for now, it was tucked away for a later time, aside from some parts that I will sell.
Then, the strangest thing happened...
A very rare used, but good Cummins/Gm transmission adaptor kit popped up for sale locally.
This a billet machined adaptor plate, SFI rated flywheel/Flex plate, like new starter, all the ARP bolts, instructions, etc.
Allows a GM 4L80e to be bolted behind a Cummins.
$1500 new... guy was asking $500... agreed on $400...
I literally was in the car in 5 mins and grabbed it that day.

Also snagged a JD2 Tube bender and Dies....
Lots of different projects in mind for that one, but as my Motorhome lacks the skid plate gat tank protector, that’s on the cards now.
Of course, it was used, so I stripped, blasted, Powdercoated it, then did the swag off-road hydraulic conversion...
Then built a rolling cart for it. Click image for larger version

Ripped half the front off my poor VW. Thank goodness for dash cams.
Seriously peeps, you need one on every vehicle. Mine is a cheap $90 one, but it saved me thousands.
This guy claimed I ran the red.
I called cops, they came, he told them he had right of way.
I waited for my moment, looked the cop straight in the eye and said, “He can say what he wants. I was stopped, my green light, I went, he ploughed thru red, and there(pointed at upper part of windshield), is my dashcam.”.
Cops face was a gem. He grinned at me, and said, send me the footage when you get it downloaded.
I admit, I was concerned, as I’ve never looked at the footage before and didn’t know if it had it, or if I knew how to retrieve it... but I pulled the SD card, and there it was...
There was some high fives with myself, I admit... but please forgive my music choices.
The sobering realization came when I noted that I was 2 sec slow off the line... which, had I been in a hurry would have put him in my drivers door at 40mph...
After the impact, which the sound is is out of sync in the video... he span twice and came to rest up on the curb.
That clip was sent to my insurance adjuster, and the cop. I got acknowledgement from my ins company within 24 hours says they reviewed the footage and were finding the other party at fault.
BOOM!
Now to deal with the damage to the Vw, and the bumps, tweaked neck and back, knee, and bruises.

Current estimate of damage is $5500 or so, which might mean it’s totaled.
Waiting to hear.

Yes, I thought I was ok...

The reality is the impact looks minor in the video.

After making statement to cop and filing police report... then securing the lower half of the bumper from dragging, I drove home.... slowly.

But when I got home, and got out of the car and my left knee was super stiff, and swelling noticeably.
Filed claim with AAA, my Ins company, and the Adjuster asked if I was hurt. As soon as I said I was feeling some pain, she advised me to go to ER or Urgent Care.
Nothing broken I am sure, but I def got banged up a bit.

Glad you are ok. Swollen knee is always suspect. That s how I tore an ACL. Don't close the case until further notice. We have an intersection like that close by and it always has high speed collisions. I make it a point to never trust the lights.

Hey Keyair, there's nothing wrong with Abba! My fave is 'Gimme, Gimme, Gimme' & that's probably the most disco-y song from Abba.

...and given it's Abba, that's really saying something!

<---- no hard core, thrash metal, punk-bum, grunge band will ever kill my love of the '70'!s To heck with the naysayers, the Disco Era was FUN. I'm a 70's Flower Child myself.

Glad you survived that near fatal crash, Keyair. Hope your Honda is salvageable but thank God you're ins company actually came through.

I guess I’m way overdue for an update.
The back and neck healed up after a raft of chiropractic help, but the knee has not healed.
I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis last year after some mild aches following longer doggy walks, but the orthopedic said I was a long way off needing a knee replacement. However, thats not the case now, as it seems the accident exacerbated it a lot. The pain, swelling, clicking, has increased, making it hard to kneel and perform my daily dog walks, and even sleeping some nights I am waking up in pain.
After consultation, i begrudgingly engaged an Attorney to help guide me.
So, its been back and forth with various Dr's, lots of imaging, PT, and Injections, they are now saying I need a knee replacement.

Pain meds, icing, and rest has become my daily regime.
So that drama is ongoing.

In the meantime my project fun has been severely curtailed.
Insurance company agreed the VW was not totaled, but close, and cashed me out for the cost of repairs.
I bought all the parts I needed, hammered out the hood a bit and roughed it back together to make it drivable.

Finishing up the Airstream slowed to a trickle, as any time spent kneeling, even with pads leaves me depleted.
It’s super frustrating, as we are planning our retirement escape from Ca, and the Airstream is a huge part of that.
I have been trying to move other stuff forward on the better days tho, and keep me sane, even tho I sometimes do too much, despite limiting my weight bearing time, and knee bending.
I’ve been focussed on wrapping up my K10 Camper truck.
Almost done on an EFI conversion. I’m doing the whole hog, with the Sniper EFI, distributor, Sniper coil, and timing control module, Edelbrock intake, and new SS headers, which is kinda fun and good practice, as I now know that is the way to go on the airstream now. Will have to go with the MSD unit which is CA smog approved, but I have learned a lot.

Steve, like you I've been diagnosed with arthritis in my joints so I can sure sympathize with your knee issues although I don't think my arthritis is as bad as yours. I wish you the best as you work through the pain.

Thanks Brad.
Getting old sucks, without being injured by someone else’s negligent actions. I say again, to everyone, get a dash cam for every vehicle you drive. It’s $100 so well spent! Without that simple proof it’s down to a he said she said unprovable situation. You might be a great driver but others are not, as a minimum… and sometimes outright lunatics.
I got cutoff in traffic just recently where the single driver swerved around 3 cars, into the carpool lane, at about 100mph, and chopped back in front of me. Had I not seen him behind me swerving about I might not have lifted off the gas and he would have sideswiped me as he swerved in front. I called 911 to report him and was able to upload the video for the cops who apparently caught him some 20 miles ahead.. stolen car, DUI. My video evidence and others apparently will aid in his conviction.

Well, I’m still here….
After the accident last year the knee was bad….
Attorney advised me to lay low while we went thru the legal process of dealing with the injury portion.
That’s over now… the knee is better, but I’m still limping pretty good and in pain on any given day. Drs are advising it will need replacement in the next 5 years altho they are saying I am a candidate now.
Of course, the guilty party was underinsured, so after medical bills, I didn’t get anything like what the claim was assessed at.
So everything is setback….
The K10 has seen some progress on good days…
Should have it up and running soon, but like the airstream choices you make for the best intentions have knock on consequences…
I wanted to update the alternator from a 63a unit to a 140a+, update the AC compressor to a modern one and delete the smog pump… the best way to do that was an aftermarket bracket system from ICT…

Then the original headers disintegrated when I tried to weld shut the AIR injection ports… the new SS units needed mods to fit my truck… and I will have to fab a new exhaust system now too.
I haven’t visited the Airstream for over 9m, so I need to go out soon and check it’s all ok. I completely shut it down last time I was there as I thought it might be a while before I was able to go again, so I disconnected the solar panels etc.
Anyway, it’s been a while since I updated… Hi to everyone again!
Did get a visit from Rob and Joni(Magnet) earlier this year, so there was proof of life!

Hey Steve!

It's really great to see you back on, or at least checking in. You were one of the more active members when I first found the forums site several years ago. I was always impressed at the breadth of your experience and talents.

Proof of life is nothing to laugh about these days. Seems there's better reason than ever before to be concerned about people we haven't heard from in a while, particularly in this small community of crazies.

Glad you're well and still at it. Keep us up to date on your projects!

Charly
