Soooo, I'm only an "expert" to the ability of my aging brain's retention of 15 year old info. I recall some stuff, but haven't touched one for about 12 years. If I can contribute I will, but most of you owner DIYers probably have more info than I.
Heck, an "aging expert" is still a great asset to have around

Don't be surprised if you get a question thrown your way from time to time.

Thanks for the help!

Brad
I've never seen a diesel engine in an Argosy motorhome. The first Airstream diesel was in 1981.

Where do the hoses go to? Some of the Airstream units had the radiator hoses going to both an Aux Heater (cabin heat) and to heat the water in the water heater tank.

I've never seen anything like that.

The hoses are part of the Power Steering system. The device in the picture is a hydraulic wiper motor. I noticed it while looking through my 74 owners manual. Fortunately there are enough knowledgeable people on the forum that we were able to piece together just what it was.

I'm rather glad I have electric wipers on my Argosy

The part looks very much like the hydraulic windshield wiper motor system used on the GMC motorhomes from that era. I had a '75 GMC and that is what my WW system looked like. I am pretty sure that is what it is in the Argosy photo.

My 78 Argosy Motorhome used an electric motor WW system, but who knows what Argosy experimented with in the early years.

Not "aging experts" but vintage experts, thank you.

No caulking?

I am truly disappointed ... have been following this thread, and I was personally convinced that in those days, they came with a built-in caulking gun for sealing seams. Something all A/S owners could use!

At the bottom of the first picture there is a caption that says "coolant recover tank". This may be part of the engine cooling system (my uneducated guess).

I don't think so, my guess is the "coolant recovery tank" caption is referring to the thing in the picture that says "engine coolant" on it.

Hi, in the late 60s and early 70s Lincolns and Thunderbirds used hydraulic wiper motors. They were powered from the power steering pump. they had about eighteen different speeds, were very strong, and had very few problems. I think that I removed one and cleaned the inlet screen. These are much better for vehicles with large wind shields requiring large wiper blades.
