Strange motorhome on Argosy Owners FB group

Currently in Netherlands, but claimed to be a factory 1972 motorhome (not just a 1972 trailer bolted to a period Ford chassis).

There are more photos on the group page.

I'm not convinced and still think it is a modified trailer but has anyone come across it before?

Yeah Martin, I'm like you, I bet it's a modified trailer to MH, look at the windows. I've never seen an Argosy conversion, but Fred on View RVs has documented some Airstream Trailer to Motohome conversions from the 1970's.

The original poster on FB just clarified.....

"...... its built by Ed Gilsdorf Fort Collins, Colorado. He was an engineer from Lockheed. He bought a Ford Econoline 300 1972 and the Argosy 28 ft. and merched it together"

Which makes a lot more sense! Still must be one of the first trailer converted to a MH. Although I do remember reading some of the early Argosy MH went out as kits,

I bet it's a conversion too, but I like it. It's different enough to garner a crowd anywhere it goes.

And after a hard look at picture #2 you can see a paint difference between the cab and the trailer body. In the same picture they cut into the bottom trim for what I'm assuming is the propane fill. I don't think the factory would have done it quite that way. Also the lower trim doesn't line up correctly from the cab to the body. I have very little experience with AS or argosy motor homes but the fit and finish is much better than that on my 73 argosy trailer.

Side door

The "suicide" door on the side gives it away as well, that is was a trailer designed for unoccupied towing and not a motorhome for riding in.

It is a Ford Econoline van grafted to a trailer and the front windshield, hood, and fenders oddly extended.
Genious.
