Replacing Drivers Seat ??

Greetings ! We have noticed the driver seat in our recently purchased 74 Argosy 24 footer is waaaay to far back. So much so that it will make driving difficult and uncomfortable. We have tried moving it forward but it does not seem to move any further.

Could someone please advise me on replacing this seat with something else ? What kind of seat should I be looking for and who would do this work? A fabricator, mechanic, auto body repairman ? Will any truck seat suffice ? I don't need anything fancy.

Thanks in advance !

Judging by your username, you might be a little vertically challenged, but I need to ask one question.

Does the seat presently adjust back and forth, or is it seized in the furthest away position?

The seat should travel 3-4 inches at least.

Cheers
Tony

Could be you need a different height seat pedestal rather than seat. Do you feel you are too far from the pedals or the wheel?

In 1974 the batteries were still mounted in the front behind the front access panel, and so you would have no restriction on changing pedestal and so height (from 1977 on the batteries moved to a box that sits under the seat and restricts that option).

I use the highest pedestal I could buy (10") plus a 3" extension, with the seat back as far as it can go and I am only 5' 9" and most folks have the opposite issue (can't get far enough back from the pedals, or in my case wheel (I am nearly as round as I am high!)), so you have a lot of scope to move closer.

Yes it does move a few inches, but not enough. Both my husband and I (average height) still feel that it is too far away to drive comfortably. Its like we are reaching.

Its definitely not the height , just the fact that we cannot get close enough. I think our battery compartment is on the passenger side rather than behind seat.
