I am guessing Thursday night. We are picking it up Monday but we won't likely start driving north until Tuesday. We are not going to kill ourselves so the two day drive will likely be three days. I do want to get north or Atlanta fairly quickly since it will be HOT down south! I'll also be driving slow so I can check my gas mileage with the rebuilt carburetor.

ViewRvs, I actually joined and am in the process of purchasing a 1974 Argosy because of the pics of the unit on the Coop website. Weeks of no sleep later, I come to find out that the beautiful unit that I saw online belongs to a forum member.

Being a forums member does expose the issues with your unit to the public and could be an issue at resale. I will say this though, MOST forums members care very much for their coaches and want to fix their problems the RIGHT way and not take shortcuts. The biggest danger to these coaches seems to be repair shops that DO take shortcuts in repairs.

Owning a vintage coach is a challenge not everyone is up for. If you want a trouble free coach and plan on taking it to the shop for repairs, go buy a new unit. When buying one of these units, you need a sense of adventure!

I hope you enjoy your new Argosy! Buy a second tool box and get ready to learn!

FYI - my "sweet machine" now has a radiator leak and my new power transfer switch is popping my home GFI outlet! I need to get this stuff fixed quick so I cam get back out on the road.

Thanks for the encouragement. The attention to detail and the 'Make it right' attitude is what brought me in to the fold. You are correct, restoring vintage coaches is not for the weak at heart. I imagine I'll either have to get dirty or get a second job or both at the same time! Good luck with the repairs.

Since my radiator is out I have been reading up on the radiator replacement articles here on the forums, Ill get it checked out by a shop.

Three lessons learned in the process:

1) Pick your color from color samples from the paint shop and don't use the factory paint code on the Airstream site. The factory code is beige but with a slight yellow tint. I guess that was the look in the 70's. The coach still looks great but the yellow tint makes the condition look older than it really is.

2) The orange rub rail trim insert fades VERY quickly. Like 2 months! I was very disappointed. I wasn't expecting 10 years of vibrant orange but 2 months? Come on!

3) The metallic dark brown in the center section and lower sections looks great!

Sorry to hear about the rub rails. Where did you get them - if it matters. The ones my PO purchased from Inland faded fast. I've removed them and want to replace, but not sure what to do.

I purchased the orange rub rail from Inland RV also.
