It was really fun.. Those who know about Airstreams, know about their trailers.

Jami,

Rosie is looking good!

I mentioned to Ernie about the Nuvite but he's been busy stripping paint. The spots that he polished were mainly to see how well scratches would polish out. My guess is the polishing process will start in Ernest (pun in tended ) sometime in the next day or two.

In talking with Ernie I don't think he's going to "enjoy" the process but he does think that his arms are going to get larger.....

Thanks Brad!! I even like her more now!! Most of this wasn't done with Nuvite. I found Nuvite to be more frustrating! I used a Zephyr compound bar,
and a cutting wheel.. I bought everything trust me.. Even the cost is substantial. (3M Wool Pads, Nuvite 9,7,6 and S etc.) I am covered head to toe.
It's such a messy job!

Jami, is that the latest fashion wear for an Airstream polisher?!!

Actually it was Zephyr not Nuvite that Martin had mentioned you were using. I've previously passed that info on to Ernie but don't know what he's decided to do yet.

Actually moving Peanut to Europe was the trigger for polishing....it's almost complusory on vintage/classic Airstreams over here.

Haha!! I know right! Trust me, I’ve looked they don’t make those tyvek suits in pink! Although my accessories are! (The tool belt is Manouch’s)
Most of the time is spent cleaning off that wheel.. maybe I should write in to “Dirty Jobs”?!

Ernie has his own idea of what's fashionable wear for polishing

I believe he's working on the first polishing pass on the corner.

What's going to be hard to deal with are spots like this just below the door latch.

Its a spot of heavy corrosion that was found under the paint. There are spots like this all over. It's going to take a lot of effort and some pretty course grit to get them out. Hopefully without leaving a hole in the aluminum.

Not sure if this is first or second pass polishing, haven't talked to Ernie about it yet.

A little elf (well maybe not quite so little!) showed up again yesterday and did some more polishing.

The hardest parts are those pesky corners and tight spaces. Ernie is doing a great job!!

Some of the things Ernie is dealing with are scratches and dents. Here's an example of some scratches created by a PO when he removed a map from the side of the coach.

We believe these are tree branch scratches.

This rough surface is where the original ABS plastic tail light housing fit against the shell. These are going to be tough to deal with.

I'm going to have to figure out how to get that work platform raised by about a foot so he can reach above the awning rail.

Oh yeah, one other thing. What I've been describing as polishing is actually just buffing. Other than the one first small test spot where he tried the second grit size all he's been doing so far is first stage buffing.

Do you know if Ernie is using the Nuvite or trying the Zephyr bar Brad?

PS I may have the solution for the area where the map was......my neighbours bought me the same map to stick on Bella when I ‘retired’......worse case we can cover it back up [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I don't think we will need to go to the extreme of putting a map back on Peanut!

Ernie feels he'll be able to remove most of the scratches covering Peanut. He's not just using the buffing wheel and coarse grit to remove scratches, he's also going to be sanding them out with various super fine grits of sand paper with his DA sander.

I don't remember exactly what his Degree is called but Ernie has a Degree in body work and finishing. This is the first time he's worked in aluminum but the buffing and polishing process is something he very familiar with.

I know he enjoys buffing a lot more than I enjoy mowing
