So, would replacing the rivet be the right choice or would sealing with Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure be a better option?

I would think a new buck Rivet with Vulkem 116 would be a more permanent fix. Just don't use a rivet with the rubber washer, since it will fail sooner or later and cause the same paint problem

It will have to be Olympic rivets. I'm not going to pull the interior to fix a few rivets!

Well, due to the weather, paint stripping operations have ground to a halt the last couple of days. Through trial and error we found that the stripper works very well when it's sunny but when it's cloudy it almost seems to go dormant. Yesterday we had a toad strangler and I believe today is supposed to be more of the same. However tomorrow through Saturday we're supposed to have sunshine so with luck paint stripping will begin again tomorrow morning.

Fingers crossed!

Brad

Finally had enough sunshine for Ernie to do some more paint stripping.

Peanut is looking surprisingly good so far. Probably my biggest concern at the moment is whether or not we're going to have enough stripper to finish the job. As of this morning there is exactly half of the stripper left in the container. Ernie has company today and tomorrow and I'm not sure how much time he's going to spend stripping paint so I'm not sure how much progress I'll be reporting today.

You can see the "sanding" marks in the aluminum that I mentioned previously. Ernie things they might have been caused by a wire wheel on a drill motor. Polishing them out should be interesting but doable.

It's taking about three separate coatings, sometimes four, of paint stripper to get everything off.

You know Ernie is doing such a great job I wonder if he would be interested in a vacation to the Pacific Northwest?

Your idea of a vacation and Ernie's idea of a vacation probably have two different meanings

There's a lot of masking that has to be done around the front so it's likely going to take a couple more days to finish the stripping process.

Not having to mow would be a vacation for me but I doubt that would impress Ernie

Well Brad maybe you could use a vacation too. Remember I acquired a 345 that would be a great vacation spot for both of you.

There's a whole lot of vacations I can think of taking and NONE of them include Ernie

It'll probably be a day or two before any more progress is made. Heat index for today was up to 105 and I think tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same.

I believe he has tested a couple of spots with the polisher but I haven't really looked to see where they are. We've got nice weather scheduled through the weekend some maybe there will be a little polishing to show off
