They aren't supposed to do that. The lower bulb is supposed to be high beam only.

Brad on my coach the top lights are the low beam . When low beam is selected only the top row and one in the center are lit . When I switch to high beam all of the led on all 4 lights are lit.

I went for a test drive after dark to try them out all I can say is WOW with high beam
on it is like someone turned on the sun. And the low beams are way better than the quarts halligen I had before

John, thanks for the info. Your description matches how Peanut's headlights are setup.

Enjoy the get together!

Brad,
My 77 is as John describes. The low beam has only the top row illuminated. High beam has both the top and bottom row illuminated. I have not changed my headlamps from the original configuration yet. If you look at the original sealed beam bulbs the low bulb has three connections and the high beam bulb has two connections. The low beam bulb actually has two filaments, both high and low beam hence three connections. The high beam bulb only has one filament with just two connections.

The park/clearance lamps and the rear tail lamps and license plate lamp including the dash lamps are all on one circuit. So the beam selection should not change anything except for the headlamps. The beam selection just switches between the low beam filaments and the high beam filaments and that should be it. By the way unless there is a problem with the dash light dimmer, should the dash lamps go out then that is an indicator that all of the park/clearance and tail lamps are out since they are on the same circuit and you are driving with only headlamps. I had this problem a couple of years ago and the original front park lamp assembly were deteriorated to the point that in a light rain water intruded and shorted out the fuse that powers all of those lamps. My first indication was the dash lamps went out. Interesting drive to get to our destination.

If other lamps change it usually turns out to be grounding issues. I have been through those kind of problems in the past. I have changed all of my lamps over to LED’s except for the headlamps and the rear tail lamps. From the way you guys talk, I am seriously considering changing the rest of the lamps over to LED.

Gregg, when I removed Peanut's old headlights it had bulbs as you describe, 3 connector on top and 2 connector on the bottom. When I'm done Peanut will be all LED on the exterior lights. Which reminds me I need to look at what kind of bulb is used on the license plate light!

That's a good tip on the dash lights. I had something similar happen in the 310 driving at night and the dimmer switch failed causing the lights to go out. Not the best situation to be in!

I've installed LED headlights in my F250 and my Ranger and the difference is amazing. My Argosy has 7" LED headlights but it will be a while before I can test them.

I gotta admit, the LED headlights that Mike found are nice units

Back to the subject of the VistaView window trim.....

Its amazing how 3D printing technology has moved forward, changing the $600 per trim I paid into something you can do at home.

NICE!
Speaking of 3D printing, I just got my PRUSA 3D printer setup.
One of my first Airstream parts I want to make are the weep hole covers.

I bought some polycarbonate in black to see how they hold up. Online these small parts are pricey and the new ones oxidize and break easy.
I can also fudge the design to look like little gargoyles if I like

Been a while since I posted to Peanut's thread, fortunately work has been moving forward.

After discussions with Martin we opted to eliminate the ABS plastic panel that housed the cover for the vista view window. It actually broke into a bunch of pieces as we removed it from the ceiling. Here's what the ceiling looks like after the panel was removed.

Digging through my stash of aluminum sheet metal salvaged from the 345 and the Excella trailer I found one piece that would work as a replacement. Most of the remnants that I have have a bazillion rivet holes, etc in them. The one I found has maybe 2 or 3 rivet holes that will have to be plugged.

Even the pattern lined up fairly well.

I'll post pictures soon showing the finishing piece in place and the new light that Martin bought to replace the one that was in the plastic housing.

On the outside, Ernie has been busy removing all of the misc odds and ends that are in the way of polishing. Polishing supplies should be arriving over the next few weeks.

That's cool! However, I'm glad we didn't have to go through that for Peanut

Ernie is now in the beginning stages of stripping the paint off of Peanut prior to polishing.

We're using PPG Aerospace PR-5044 Peroxide-Activated Stripper VTS-574 from Vintage Trailer Supply.

Contrary to reports elsewhere where posters have said you have to wait 8 hours between application and removal of the stripper. I think he waited about an hour to do the test section in the pictures.

The main thing we wanted to find out today was how well does the stripper work on paint, what does it do to the ABS banana wraps and how much of a mess does it make. We think the shadowing in the aluminum is from some sort of etching primer applied when Peanut was painted at the factory.

After he applied the stripper to the paint he then coated a scrap piece of ABS with the stuff to see what would happen. As we thought the stripper does affect the ABS so we have to do what we planned for which is to use a special lead tape and aluminum foil to cover the ABS banana wraps. I was kinda hoping the stuff wouldn't affect the plastic, oh well....

The mess wasn't as bad as I was anticipating which helps a lot. Basically the stripper gets applied and scraped off with the remains falling onto sheets of cardboard. Once the bulk has been removed he's spraying the area with water to rinse off the remaining residue.

Still lots to do but it's started

Brad

Martin,

Do you want the exterior window frames painted black for a contrast look or polished?

Pssst Brad, you have to stop asking Martin for his opinion on stuff to do for Peanut; you know his penance is going to go for the most expensive and hardest thing to do. You should have painted the windows a nice cherry black, to match the strip around the belt line, told Martin that Ernie got carried away with the painting; then found that it set off the motorhome better, and you were going to do the same to yours.

Martin would have totally bought it, without so much as a "hang on a sec".

Ernie is going to be cursing you both, with all those nasty corners, rivets and bits and pieces to those windows. I mean Voodoo doll stuff, or whatever Deliverance stuff they do down in Kentucky.

Bravo Ernie!

Cheers

Ernie doesn't' need nasty corners or rivets and bits to be cursing, it seems to come quite natural to him

The picture doesn't show it but he's already removed the paint from one of the windows and it seemed to clean up rather well.

There are several rivets on Peanut that look like this. Does the lack of paint around the rivets mean they are loose and need to be replaced? Or is the lack of paint due to a poor paint job?

a little bit of movement and a little bit of water. Leave to Lao Tzu, who successfully explained it in the 6th century BC

“Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong.”
