Oil Filter leak

Has anybody had the oil filter mount above the filter leak, And if so how did you fix it. I have engine oil leaking and it looks like it coming from around and above the top of the oil filter. Is there a gasket where the oil filter adapter mounts to the block.

I don't think it is the rear main at least I hope not I checked the valve cover and it is not leaking

Yes. I had the same leak on a work truck in the past.

New gasket.

Once you remove the adapter it's pretty obvious.

Those rubber gaskets get pretty brittle over the years and tend to leak. Take it all apart and reseal it and your good to go!

Do you happen to know if those gaskets are still available or do I have to make them up.

Carefully take off the old one and go to Napa and they will find you an eqivalent seal. It will be either square cut or round.

They should be available. That's part of the beauty of Chevy engines, they made a lot of them for a long time and lots of parts interchange.

It's like an o-ring with a slightly rectangular cross sections. Some people call it an o-ring, but to me that implies a circular cross sections. Maybe just me.

On edit: Vinnie posted just before me. He's right again.

You really shouldn't have any problems getting one, just take your adapter in.

(Taking your old parts to the store with you is always a good idea.)
