Maiden Voyage....

Well here we go, Saturday we will take our Argosy 24 on a 200 mile round trip overnighter. Fingers crossed and towing service at the ready. I do feel fairly confident that the motorhome will be fine, there is that little part of me that wonders tho. We are heading up to Kokomo Indiana taking in a Rib-Fest and an outdoor concert. Spending the night at a friends pond, bon fire and some refreshments.

I have done alot of mechanical work and de-cobwebbing on the old girl. This unit had set for several years, so I expect the unexpected.

Will let you know how the excursion goes.

Make sure you change any and all rubber under the hatch. I will be doing that next weekend on mine and our maiden voyage is July 3 on a 350 mile round trip..... hauling a big boat!

All the belts and hoses have been replaced, new wiper blades....manifolds, plugs, plugs wires, master cylinder... and the list goes on and on. I also got Good Sam Club roadside assistance.. Hope it will be uneventful.

Have you changed the fuel filter and do you have a spare? The old girl likely has tons of crud in the tank that could get all excited about the Rib-Fest and clog the filter!

Pretty exciting. Keep up posted.

I have replaced the fuel pump and filter. great idea about bringing a spare filter. I will pick one up before we leave. I also have a fairly well stocked tool box. Just hope I don't need to break it out.

Good luck!
We are shaking the cobwebs out of our '78 28 footer this weekend as well. Nothing ambitious, just 70mi. To a vintage trailer rally. Yours sounds more fun. We got Good Sam too- although I hope it will be a while before we need it.

Kevininwa,
I hope your trip went as well as ours. We ended putting about 375 miles on the mh over the course of 3 days. No issues not even a hiccup with the engine. I did find several areas that need attention relative to rattles and the placement of gear. Going from a 29 ft. Streamline travel Trailer to a 24 ft. mh you do loose a ton of cargo space. I have found that the exterior door needs more adjustment, The original screws on the top hinge have been replaced with something else. If anyone knows the correct size I would appreciate you passing it along to me.

Looking forward to our next excursion, taking her to Columbus Oh. next weekend, definitely going to stay off the interstate as I do not want to push the old girl that hard.

I have been camping for 50 years and had a class A several years ago. There is something about putting your faith in a 35 yr. plus truck chassis. I have been gaining confidence in her drivability every mile. To answer your question Yes it is fun.....

Great, I'm glad it went well. We drove around 180 uneventful miles. We had the same issue with rattles and jangles. We found our dog, who loves riding in cars, is a little apprehensive about all the noise. My wife held her in her arms (a full grown pit mix, not a tiny Yorkie) all the way back. We identified the screen door and kitchen stuff as the main offenders. So the outer door made noise as well? I'll have to take a look at mine. My wife has yet to take the wheel (I'm SURE it is just a matter of time) so I did not get a first hand listen.

Kevininwa..

My screen door also rattles a lot I am going to purchase some foam with an adhesive back on it and stick to the frame. I also plan on replacing the roller closure as that has worn thru the years. I have also placed some adhesive foam pads on all of the closet doors to dampen the rattles. That has worked well.

We are planning a trip to Columbas Ohio this weekend. I am sur when we get home there will be more items to add to the things to do list. I am glad you had an uneventful trip as well, mechanically speaking. FYI.. My wife has yet to take the wheel, don't know if she will.

Great

Great to hear it went well. I am new to AS Argosy ownership but had a Fleetwood a few years ago. I guess I had my maiden trip getting it home last weekend. Not a long trip ut over 100 miles. I have my first camping trip this weekend. Will stay close probably Natural Bridge or Cumberland Falls. My rig only has 2000 miles on a new motor and trans so it seems to be mechanically good. Only 39K on the rig and it pretty much fully restored. So, I hope its a no trouble affair. You seem to be somewhat close. If you come this way it would be great to camp or converse at any of the many beautiful Kentucky area parks.

Jeffyork40,

Glad to hear your trip went well, the more you drive the more quirks you are going to find. We have been about 700 miles so far this season and have had a few issues but preventative maint. and some tlc has proven to be the key to making our jaunts safe and relatively uneventful.

Looking forward to seeing more posts from you and hearing about your endeavours.

Paul
