Lost partial power- please help.

I have been living in the 28' 1976 Argosy for over a month, hooked up to an external power source.

Last night I lost all power to the following:

water pump
central control panel
furnace/blower
'exit' light by door'
light above sink

The univolt still hums quietly. I reset the four breaker switches, checked the fuses in the back by the univolt, checked the water pump fuse as well as the one sticking from the side of the central control panel. I even checked the fuses up front by the driver's seat and the two univolt fuses in the front access panel. All fuses appear to be o.k.. Actually, I replaced one fuse but it did not solve the problem.

The bathroom outlets and those in the dining area still work. The thermostat still works.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

Hi argo76, Sorry to see you having trouble. Looks like this is a 12VDC problem. Do you have a volt meter? Can you confirm that the univolt is producing 12VDC? Besides the hummmmmmmmm. I've heard them hummm before and be dead.

You need a volt meter to do some testing. I've seen those fuse panels the 12 volt power goes thru go bad due to loosed rivets that go thru the board that the fuse holders are mounted on.

Connect the volt meter black wire to ground, and then test to make sure you have 12 volts going into the fuses as well as on the load side. I would guess you have a loose rivet.

A simple two lead 12v test light is very handy.

Is there a big fuse that is between the univolt and the battery?
That big fuse, if there, should be checked early in the process.

kenneth,

you hit the nail on the head.

there are two big fuses in the front access, by the radiator. they both looked fine at first, but one of the fuses had a melted drop of solder coming from one end- indicating a bad fuse.

when we installed the new fuse it became hot to the touch. i scraped the connections for better contact and that solved the problem.

problem: residue/ weathering caused bad connection at fuse.

Thanks for your help!
